BRP discontinues production of all Evirude outboards. They were barely hanging on before and the WuFlu was the final nail in the coffin. They signed a deal with Mercury Marine to supply all of their production boat lines.

there was a time when you either had a Johnson outboard or you had a paddle. There was no other viable option

what a shame

That’s a shame. The E-tec G2 was a legit good outboard.

I’m still running a ‘92 Johnson Fast Strike 175. It’s due for a rebuild. But that motor has been solid.

Well, frick. What about current standing warranties? Parts?

frick this bullshite!

Eta: nevermind, just read it. They will continue to support parts and service. Bet its gonna be shite inventory and techs though

Etaa: that article reads like a blockbuster card of buzzword bingo. frick the customers, frick the employees. We've rung this out for all it's worth and we're going on to ring something else out

Just curious, about what year did the Johnson/Evinrude motors go to shite? There seems to be quite a bit of 30+ year old ones still out there rolling. More so than Yamaha, Mercury, etc.

1972 Evinrude two-stroke, still running strong. Had it serviced by T-Mike in Breaux Bridge last summer.

I had a 130 on my first boat many moons ago, even as 15yr old knucklehead I couldn't kill it. They had most of the kinks worked out of the G2's, my son was actually in the process of buying a Blazer Bay with a 300G2 on it today when this news broke. I think he is going to pass on it now, worried the re-sell will be in crapper when he went to flip it next spring. I can see warranty claims being an issue in the future, not like they'll be worried about pissing off future customers.

Well this sucks! I have a G2 that’s not even a year old yet.

I am a devoted Evinrude fan.

I am saddened by this, but I am not surprised. This won't be the last major brand that the Covid nonsense killed.

Sigh.

One of my first outdoor experiences as a kid was the smell of a 6hp Evinrude being started.

I wish I still had my '74 Evinrude 50. Excellent boat motor.

I can remember when no one would put a Mercury in the salt. It was JOMC or nothing. Damn shame that OMC is no more. I was always an Evinrude person until about 20 years ago and I only own Mercs now simply because I think they will be around until I reach room temperature. I have a 60's era Evinrude 9.9 that I bought when I was 9 so I have had it 46 years this spring and it still runs like a top and has never had ANYTHING replaced or done to it. That's probably part of their demise...buy one and it would last forever for the same price as a Merc that would have to be replaced in 7-8 years. This Evinrude has been ABUSED...in the salt with no washdown, sitting unused for years at a stretch, buried under crap on its side in the shop, completely submerged in fresh and salt water more times than I can recount...and it keeps going.

This my dad’s boat I’ve been using lately. Looking to get a new fuel pump, any recommendations on a website to buy one for an older Johnson? I’m just not sure the exact year

I've a 1991 Evinrude 30 HP 2 stroke that runs just as great today as it was when it was purchased new by my father. Ethanol free gas and Seafoam added to every gallon of fuel. When it dies, I'll either be going with a Yamaha or Tohatsu for its replacement.

I will never own a Mercury, or buy a boat with a Mercury outboard. Never much cared for them. Have always loved the old OMC Johnsons and Evinrudes.

I had a couple of Johnson Sea Horses that were like vampires. They wouldn’t die, despite my best efforts. I completely re did one before Katrina and it was performing like a beast, cranked every time I turned the key etc. Katrina was only thing that could kill it.

When BPS bought Evinrude they did an inventory of parts etc and something like 30% or more of parts failed their quality control. Surprised they lasted this long. But that said they were damn good reliable motors in their hay day
