The eye was really Big Brother.

The remote for that TV was metal. About 4 inches wide. 8 inches long. And had a title pf 6 buttons

I think I still have a hernia from moving one of those heavy cabinet bastards. No wonder we just sat the new tv on it for a few months.

This is exactly why attendance is down at sporting events. The experience at home has improved 1000%. Probably more.

Thank god for advances in technology. Those mofos were a bitch to move, now you can just throw your arm over your tv and pick it up

Yeah, but at least no one could steal your tv back then. Now, they just grab it on the way out the door as an afterthought.

We had this Zenith brand new in '72. It was so awesome at that time.

I remember in the late '70s I got to hold -- and watch! -- one of those mini TVs (it belonged to my older cousin)
I still recall the thrill. No computer has ever come close to that feeling.

I still love this format for TV's. Wish someone would do a furniture version with an LCD that was on the floor. Laying on the floor playing video games and watching The Jeffersons and Diff'rent Strokes reruns was 100.
Having all that real estate on top would be great to put an Xbox and a receiver. This TV on the wall bullshite needs to die already. Don't even get me started on TV's hanging over fireplaces, an abomination of the nouveau riche.
I believe TulaneLSU's mom is still rocking a 27" Trinitron from Alterman.

I don’t think we got a TV with a remote until the mid 80’s

We had one like that. Called it Twiggy because it looked like something from Buck Rogers. Erin Gray....ummmm!

My first TV was a bigass Curtis Mathes console in 1983.

My parents had one of the 80s models when I was growing up. I remember when my dad opened the box I thought it was a table. Actually that big bastard hasn't moved in 30 years, my parents use it as a TV stand for the flat screen

I moved a TriniTON TV up a flight of stairs once. I opened it up to see why the fricker weighed so much. To my surprise, I found some factory staff members stowed away inside of it.
And by some I mean ALL!

I remember my dad taking the glass tubes out of the TV and going to the convenience store where they had a charger. Or for a nominal fee, you could take already charged ones and leave yours in exchange.

I got a scar on my knee when I was 3 or 4 from pulling some big arse box TV over on myself when I was climbing up on it.
