Unpopular opinion probably, but I really enjoyed his work on Catch Me If You Can and The Terminal.

Star Wars- Although this would include 9 movies, I'd say the first one. While Empire did add The Imperial March and Yoda's Theme, the first set up the musical universe and created the blueprint which lasts until today.

Harry Potter- this is played to picture by orchestras all over the world. If this is based on recognition by the general public, especially people under 30, I think HP is one of the most well known.

Raiders- third is hard because there are a lot of scores that could qualify. Mostly based on the popularity of one or two of the themes from the films. Like Jurassic Park, Superman, Jaws or E.T. A case could be argued for any of those.

A few years back I saw John conduct the last reel of E.T. live to picture at the Hollywood Bowl. It was pretty amazing.

I don’t care about the general public’s opinion on this, but for me:

1) Star Wars
2) Indiana Jones
3) Schindler’s List

What he added to Star Wars over the course of the 9 films is amazing. The original theme and Imperial March, Duel of the Fates to name just a few. Star Wars wouldn’t be what it is without him. Just look at Rogue One for an example of that.

The JFK score doesn’t get as much recognition but it’s masterfully done, too.

My #1 with him is Close Encounters.

It breaks a rare, 4th Wall.

The Iconic 5 Note Sequence spans beyond the kid and his toy xylophone.

It's both a score, and Alien Mothercode..

With that criteria, I would rank his Top 3 as the following:

1. Star Wars (1977)
2. Jurassic Park (1993)
3. Jaws (1975)

Star Wars/Jaws (tie)
Superman

Star Wars - that first blast immediately triggers your brain
Jaws - two notes and fight or flight kicks in
Superman - the opening trumpet, the fact that the main notes match the number of syllables and the cadence of "Soo-per-man".

Star Wars
Raiders
Jaws

Star Wars and Raider basically set the musical tone for two incredibly franchises that are instantly recognizable.

Jaws- He basically wrote the theme song for sharks. And in a movie that shows so little of the shark, his music that essential to build tension.

Bought the CD when I was in my 30's (in the 90's). Great road trip music when driving solo. I always needed it driving home through East Texas on I-20. At that time, the only FM channels my car picked up were Country and Right-wing talk radio.
