Looking at buying a nice watch. I know there are a lot watch experts on here. I wanted to get the experts opinions on the Omega Seamaster Diver 300. Did not want to spend more than $4000 and it looks like this watch would fall in that range. Also what are the best online stores to purchase or would you recommend buying from a local store?

At least post a photo of the watch so that the people of the OT can judge how trashy you are. And put “Paging Broke” in your title if you want a real opinion.

Which particular one? As a matter of taste, I don't care for the skeleton hand wave dial models, but ref. 233.32.41.21.01.002 in my opinion is one of the best looking luxury dive watches not in the Submariner range. I have a Planet Ocean ref. 2201.51 that just got back from a service that has been a really good watch. It also features a coaxial escapement and has been remarkably accurate over the years. I don't love the look of many Omega dive bracelets, but the reference I mention above has a great looking one, again in my opinion.

I'll also suggest that if you have the ability to check it out in person, you might consider a Tudor Black Bay Heritage (41 mm/14.8 mm thick) or Black Bay 58 (39 mm/12 mm thick) in that price range as well. The current Black Bay design is a nod to the original Submariners. As for a source, I typically prefer to buy from a vetted pre-owned dealer or private sale from someone I can trust or authorized dealer as opposed to a gray market source, but that's just me.

I have a Seamaster that is now 25 years old.

It has been a great watch, always get compliments on it.

Extremely dependable.

Between 2 and 3k I’d look for a Sinn. They have tons of interesting designs. Even inside of those designs they have variations, this is a 756...just an example.

What do you plan on doing with the watch? Collecting? EDC? Formal occasions?

I've owned one. It's a good quality watch. You have to make sure it's not the small version. And you could pay less than $2500 used.

I'm a fan of the Seamaster 300, I just can't decide on the faux patina.

Check the classifieds of some of the bigger watch online communities and I would imagine you can find a nice used one in that watch and save a good bit, unless you are after the buy new experience. I am not sure if it is kosher to link for sale forums here, so I will just provide names - rolexforums.com has a non-Rolex buy/sell section that has a great number of high quality sellers as well as individual collectors that will post. The same goes for watchuseek.com and timezone.com. I've never bought from Reddit r/watchexchange, but I keep an eye on it and I see some good stuff float through there. I like having full sets (ie box and papers), but so many of this model are sold grey market that you might have a hard time finding one with papers. I would pay attention to service history as well if buying used.
