And no, I don’t know the kids, but it sounds like they grew up single parent and they lost that parent. And they seem like good kids trying to do the right thing in life by getting a good education.

Dang that sucks. Hopefully once they stabalize they both can work, get bikes, rent a cheap apartment. Living on campus is more expensive. Apply for every scholarship possible, especially the female. They give scholarships just for that. And hope they have some family somewhere that can maybe help out until they graduate.

I agree, their situation is no worse than many people I went to college with, and those people managed to make it without begging for money.

Yeah, the first thing I would think of when my sole parent suddenly died is starting a GoFundMe. Dealing with funeral services and expenses would just have to wait. But it looks to me as though someone else started the fund for their benefit, and perhaps without even their knowledge, desire or consent.
Nevertheless, we started a fund for the Georgia Southern students whose parents were killed in a car wreck and contributed over $50K. I guess they were more deserving since their parents were football fans.
I tell my daughter from time to time, "You can't help everyone, but you can help someone." Use your own judgment in these matters, but please don't actively discourage others from doing a Christian thing. The reward is giving yourself the gift of generosity.

They need to make hard decisions learning how to survive first, drop some extra curricular activities exchanging that time for a part time job, and college is second. They can drop down to 12 hours and work which a lot of people do while earning their college degree.

I gotta agree. A lot of people have to work in college. Or you get student loans to pay for the things you need to get by. They aren’t gonna get this again, so I hope they learn from it and make arrangements to pay their own way after the money runs out. It’s a shitty situation but they’re adults and they need to take care of themselves, their mom shouldn’t have been paying for all of their stuff anyway. And i doubt she was if she’s not leaving them enough inheritance to pay for a semester of schooling. Honestly kinda sounds like they’re taking advantage of the situation

As an agent myself, I can tell you that most people refuse to buy life insurance because they can’t touch or feel it. Just not a priority to many and that’s why I refuse to donate to go fund me accounts after the death of someone without life insurance. It doesn’t mean my heart doesn’t go out to the beneficiaries of the donations, though. I just refuse to be a part of the reason people think they don’t need insurance.
Buy life insurance before your family needs it and this type of thing could be avoided with a signature.

Yep. My best friend lost his dad (primary breadwinner) when we were in 7th grade. After that his family was pretty poor because his mom was uneducated and couldn’t get a good job. Life for him was quite rough and he went to LSU, studied hard, worked hard, and got a great job and is doing very well for himself and his family now. No reason the two kids can’t keep working hard and get a job while in school. They will be okay if they don’t let this major setback define them.

People can do what they want. These aren’t children. They aren’t sick or in the hospital.
They are able bodied 20 somethings. It’s tragic to lose a parent but they’ve got 18k already.
No need for them shaking the alms cup on multiple boards when we are trying to help Owlie, who is Really in need and part of the TD family

This might come off as me being a dick, but its really not my intentions. Its just me being honest.
This is a sad situation, but I do not donate to any Gofundme page in which I haven't had any type of interaction with the people involved or close to the situation.
Sometimes the best gift you can give to people of a certain age is to let them figure life out for themselves.

Your point about life insurance needs to be said. A term policy for 200k would have been cheap and easy. That said, this is about the kids. And I have no problem with a Go Fund Me account for this kind of thing. These are CONTRIBUTORS to society, not drains, and if good people are moved to assist them, that’s a huge net positive.

I didn't donate to that one either. Like oweo said I tend to help locally and/or people we know. The online begging has made me even more cynical and skeptical.
