Let's Assess the Pel's Chances in a Play In Tourney

It looks like the idea of a Play In Tournament is still being discussed if the league returns to play:
Let's say the league decides to throw seeds 7-12 in each conference into a tournament. This would have a first round of 10 vs. 11 and 9 vs. 12, with the 10/11 winner to play 7 and the 9/12 winner to play 8. Team with the best remaining record gets 7, the other gets 8.
In this scenario the Pels would play Sacramento in the first round and the Mavs in the second.
What do you place the odds of the Pels making the actual playoffs if something along these lines happens? Or if you think another scenario is more likely feel free to throw that out too.
On paper I like the match-up against SAC, but this is a team that has always gotten off to slow starts to begin seasons (looking at you Jrue), and this would almost be like starting a new season. Maybe the Zion factor and the growth the team experienced in Jan / Feb is enough to overcome that but who knows. Either way Dallas with a healthy Luka is a tall task.

The league hasn't worked through the details on whether all 30 teams would return, or whether regular-season games would be played, or if perhaps there would be a play-in tournament to give more teams a chance to make the 16-team playoff field, sources said.

This is why they should just call the season over and start fresh next season.

In all honesty they need to either pick the season up where it left off or just cancel it altogether. Any play-in tournament will have challenges. Canceling the rest of the regular season to head into the playoffs has just as many challenges in terms of fairness.
If they do a play-in it should only be in the Western Conf and only for the 8 seed. Not fair to Dallas to lump them into this. Mem, Pels get bye. Por-Phx and SAC-SA in Rd 1 (1 game). Winners play Mem, Pels in next round (1 game). Than they have a 3 game series for the 8th seed.
Everyone else can play each other, whether its to get in game shape for the playoffs or just to finish their season off

Yeah agreed that Dallas gets the short end in this scenario. It's less of an issue on the East where Orlando and Brooklyn have basically the same record.
Pretty much any situation is going to have significant drawbacks. They're picking from a bunch of shitty options.

If it's single elimination, we'd be fricked.
Our defense would have at least one disaster performance to preclude a 3-game winstreak.

I'd love to see some more Zion but I oppose any effort to try and get the Lakers a cheap championship banner

How would a championship by any team be cheap? This is as level a playing field as it could be. Everyone will be well rested around the league.

As you see with that poster, he's already calling it cheap because he thinks the Lakers will win. But rest assured, if the Lakers were to lose, he would surely count that against them, and therein lies the built in narrative to fit the agenda.

From all accounts it sounds like the league wants to have a full playoff schedule, with seven game series in each round. If they're playing in Orlando, it cuts out travel days and with the ability to run games concurrently assuming they have multiple courts it seems feasible.
If they do have a full playoff slate (or even one with a 5 game first round series), I don't think anyone can claim it was a "cheap" title for any team.

Not everyone has access to the same home gyms so some players will be ahead of others conditioning wise.

Because the team winning did not have to go through the rigors of a full season. They get to take a 3 month "rest" before the playoffs. This season has an asterisk by it no matter who wins the title

I just want to be able to see the Pels play a weird game with no fans and lots at stake.

Playoffs mean a lot of money to the NBA. It at all possible they will resume the season in some way.
