It's barely been a week since they re-opened so I'd hold off on declaring it a success

Nah, it's been two, meaning it's pretty close to put up or shut up time for people predicting that cases would start going up in two weeks.

Cases will rise. Deaths will rise. The media will focus on this for ratings and fear.

But as long as hospitals are not overwhelmed, it's all perfectly fine. We are never going to eliminate this Chinese disease through lockdown.

Na, just saying it will be a couple weeks before we'll know the impact of opening.

Agreed, and I support Georgia opening up. It's good for them to take the initiative.

Locally, a slight uptick in the number of inpatients with COVID-19, but the number in crit care or on vents remains low/stable.

Between the 3 local hopsitals there's probably a total of 40ish patient's admitted, and like 4-5 on vents.

Just one of the local hospitals data.

ETA:
I should also add that testing availability is much better now. All 3 hospitals have rapid in house testing with turn around within 2-4 hours. Outpatient testing within 48 hours.

My bad then, 2 weeks. Which would mean this week's and next week's numbers should tell the story. Still too early to declare it a success or a failure.

Thanks for some numbers. That makes sense, vents shouldn't start until ~week after admissions start if I remember correctly.

For calling people soy boys who need to cry more y'all sure do get your feelings hurt if anyone talks about the virus in even a neutral way, not even saying it's going to be a big bad terrible thing.

Pretty sure the point there, and in all similar stories, was that they're reopening DESPITE cases going up, not that cases are going up because they're reopening.

I know that's a difficult distinction to make.

I understand perfectly, but that wasn't the thrust of the stories I was seeing here. They were clearly trying to tie the uptick in cases to the reopening. And the fact that cases were going up DESPITE the lockdown order being in effect shows the futility of the lockdown strategy. It is and always has been a strategy with no logical end game or chance of success. It is a given that we will have more "cases" as a result of opening up. So what? It is time to accept that this virus will be with us for a while and carry on.

I mean, the point was always to slow them down, not stop them. That's what flattening the curve meant. I agree a lot of places (most places) took that way overboard and acted like the shutdown was supposed to eradicate the virus completely. It's time to open up and I'm glad opening up is happening (here in upstate New York that starts Friday).

We'll never know how much worse it would or wouldn't have been if we took no action at all. But we'll learn a lot from what happens now after things start to open up again.

massively overblown. Just becuase the governor eased up some restrictions doesn't mean it's normal like pre-virus. Just about every business I've seen that has the option (restaurants, salons, etc) have still elected to either stay closed or barely dip their toe in the water.

I live in Atlanta and took my in-laws to Athens this weekend before coming back home. In Athens and Atlanta combined, I think I saw maybe 3 or 4 restaurants total that were offering dine-in services, and that of course was with heavy restrictions.

Already starting with the excuses for when nobody else catches Covid. Georgia already has herd immunity like almost every other state. Cling to your virus. Root for your virus.

I don’t know about the bigger cities, but in rural South Georgia, bars are closed. Most restaurants are open but offering pickup/ drive thru services. Dine in restaurants that are open, are only allowing small numbers in but they are serving alcohol. Most of the small businesses stayed open, but had limited access/ contact.
