I have fond memories of this legendary LSU spot. Does anyone know where I can purchase a copy? Want to get rid of your copy?
BTW, this board is an awesome resource for a newbie.
Thanks!

Cook the butter bean recipe. It’s fantastic.

I’ve tried that linked site. It’s not being monitored, dead. Cookbook never shipped.
That was my first stop.

Just call her. She has some at her house. Google Seabell Thomas in BR. BTW, ask her how her healthy cookbook is coming along... Really! She loves hearing from her 'babies.'

I don’t consider the book a disappointment. I enjoyed the opportunity to reconnect. I also have cooked several of the recipes. I’m very happy to have that piece of her, and my, history.

Me too. I sent the money and everything and even got a call from a lady that said they were behind on printing but could send it in a couple weeks. This was in 2018 and I never heard from them again and never received anything.
Buyer beware

We used to enjoy getting thumb beans. She would always hire the less fortunate to help in the Silver Moon, there was an older gentleman bringing the food out to the table, both thumbs in bowls of red beans, he would put the bowls on the table, lustily suck both thumbs and go grab the next order.
I’m still mad at myself, she wanted me to write a little prologue for her book talking about experiences at the Silver Moon and I met life get in the way of making it by her house. I teased her when she gave me a copy, “Seabell, I know you had lard in some of those recipes”, she says “honey, no lard, those are made with love”. Neat lady, I need to go see her soon.

Momma fed a lot of kids at LSU who didn't have money. She told me "those kids Mommas ain't here, so they are my kids now while they are here."
I was eating her "North Mississippi Breakfast" one morning. 2 pcs of fried chicken, two eggs, grits, and two biscuits floating in Momma's "Love Gravy.." This well-heeled young lady came in and pressed $1000 into Mommas hand. She said Momma fed her back in college when she had absolutely nothing, and she's been waiting years to pay back that debt.
So your story about her hiring folks from the community to help out is no surprise. Lots of "names" ate there. Shaq had two helpings of EVERYTHING. Blues artists and bands coming through. Marion Edwards used to come to the back door for a big plate of Mommas blackeyed peas.
Quite a place. She still caters at her house on Baton Rouge Avenue. And you can easily find her phone number as Seabell Thomas. When she answers, that voice is unmistakable.

My SIL got me the cookbook for Christmas one year, and sadly I have never cooked anything from it.
Thanks for starting this thread, I'm gonna pull it out and use it.
