The local district attorney blocked police from making arrests immediately after the Feb. 23 shooting death of unarmed jogger Ahmaud Arbery, two county commissioners said Friday — with one accusing the two of being in cohoots because they were friends.
Cops at the scene of the Georgia shooting had believed they had probable cause to make arrests, Glynn County Commissioner Peter Murphy told The Atlanta Journal-Constitution — but were told to stand down by the DA’s office.
“They spoke to an assistant, who relayed their request to [Glynn County District Attorney] Jackie Johnson,” Murphy told the paper of the cops at the scene.
“They were told not to make the arrest.”
“She shut them down to protect her friend McMichael,” a second county commissioner, Allen Booker, told the paper.

He worked for her as an investigator, so that doesn't surprise me in the least. That's why she had to recuse herself.
It's also why the Ware County DA, the second DA to get assigned the case, had to recuse himself as well.

I’ll admit I have 0 legal experience
BUT this seems like the DA could find himself in a bit of hot water

Not surprised at all. The whole law enforcement apparatus suffers from the irrational notion that they need to "protect" themselves from outsiders.

But they want civilians to snitch.

Obstruction of justice seems appropriate. I don’t know if accessory would play in.

The cops wanted to make the arrest. I don’t necessarily disagree with your statement, but this doesn’t seem applicable in this case.

They could have made arrests. I don't recall officers being required to contact the DA's office before arresting someone.
How often does a DA make a call to a crime scene and tell the officers not to arrest the perp?
I'm going to guess it's pretty damn rare.

It would appear that those folks handled this tragic case terribly.
If so, they deserve whatever punishment they would be legally entitled to.

Such a terrible look for this county. Makes you wonder how much other shite has gone on without justice. Because this one may not have ever been anything without a video

This was always the main story behind lack of investigation. It doesn't appear to be her first controversy.
It's a change org so who knows if true. I got distracted by pics of the weather girl with same name.
