Maybe so. Hard to say what the world would look like 24 months after entering this hypothetical world we are discussing. I imagine most animals we eat would be in bad shape if we enter this scenario.

Hell, the native deer population in the southeast isn't white tail, it was another deer that was hunted to extinction
What? The white-tailed deer (in one form or another) has existed in the southeast since the Pleistocene.

I've never raised pigs, so no, I don't. I never claimed to be an expert and this is just a hypothetical. For shits and giggles.
So nix the hogs and keep the chickens and raise some rabbits. That, plus going to hunt bigger game whenever you need to stock up, or fishing if you had access. I think it could be done between 4 people pitching in.
You don't want Hogs on your property sir. They will frick up every bit of land you got. My uncle made the mistake and paid dearly for it. Destroyed his stocked pond, rutted up almost 5 acres and my god do they fricking multiply. He started out with less than 20 and when I came back from College he was 200+ easy

Yeah, now that I think more about it, pigs do seem like a bad choice. Seems they would be more trouble than they're worth.

you are not talking about homesteading, but small, industrial type farms that gross $100k on their best years
after everything, they are not netting but maybe 50% of that

Sounds like your uncle is a shifty hog farmer that doesn't know what he's doing. Lmao!

no. The number of people capable of hunting for food in this country is infinitesimal compared to the overall population.
You’d be wrong. It would really impact the easy prey. The young deer, etc. wildlife populations would plummet fast without conservation laws and enforcement. Birds? Wouldn’t be any nests. People would be snatching the eggs. On and on.

Most people wouldn't survive long enough to even attempt this.
Unless you have bushcraft/living off the land skills, you are going to be dead within a week or two.
This assumes people would even venture out in the woods. They wouldn't. They'd stay in "civilization" fighting over the scraps until they were dead because they wouldn't know any better.
ETA: You think your average urban/suburbanite has the ability to catch anything in the woods? Please.

I think they were, they def didn't look like babe.
I forgot the reason why he even wanted them in the first place, he brought them in for something but I can't remember his specific reasoning for them. All I know is less than 3 years later all them sons of bitches were gone

Most people aren't even capable of finding a bird nest.
I'm okay with making the argument that game populations could take a hit from the 5% of the population that hunts. But thinking the other 95% is going to have any significant impact on wild animals in an apocalyptic scenario? Come on, man. Half of those people couldn't even tell a deer track from any other animal, let alone locate it.
Hell, I don't event think half of the boxstand hunters could find a deer if forced to. They can't hunt without a pile of corn out in front of them.

Harsh, but true.
Growing up I wasn't allowed to hunt in a static stand next to a field. First I learned to scout, then stalk, then a climbing stand. My dad cut me some slack and let me use a rifle instead of a bow like he did.

You don’t think the other 95% could pick it up if they needed to? It’s not that hard

Not before they were dead. You might get a few here and there that get lucky, but they'll be the exception by far.

The 5% that do hunt would no longer be taking only 2 deer a year. They'd be shooting every deer they see and preserving the meat.

Lmao! You're kidding right?
10% of this country's population lives in 20 cities. Those include cities like Denver, Washington DC, San Fran, Seattle, Houston, Austin, San Antonio, Los Angeles, Jacksonville, Phoenix, Philly, etc.
You really think even a tenth of those people know where to even start in that situation?

Where do you live that people only kill 2 deer? That's amateur hour compared to some of the poachers in Louisiana.
And the 5% that do hunt don't all hunt deer. Ya'll are acting like everyone and their mother is an experienced hunter. shite, the experienced ones don't kill a shite ton of deer every year.
