If given a gun and a spot to hunt, deer hunting isn't very hard, especially if you're not worried about horns. I think most would struggle more with learning how to plant, maintain, and harvest vegetables and fruits

Have you ever hunted where they actually have deer? I see 40 every time I climb in the stand. Point and shoot

Where do you live that people only kill 2 deer? That's amateur hour compared to some of the poachers in Louisiana.

And the 5% that do hunt don't all hunt deer. Ya'll are acting like everyone and their mother is an experienced hunter. shite, the experienced ones don't kill a shite ton of deer every year.

You go on believing wild game will sustain you through the apoclypse (unless you live in remote Canada etc). When you come to raid my crops, you better bring more than your 30-06, son.

I don’t think people saying this have ever been to the Midwest

Never said it would. But it's asinine to think that every Tom, Dick, and Harry is capable of picking up a gun quick enough to provide for himself and his family.

I don’t have an exact acreage, but it probably wouldn’t take a whole lot. Chickens and a small garden could probably sustain a family for a while.

If shite hits the fan, while everyone is trying to loot their local walmarks for rifles and ammo, I'll be looting the crew served weapons from my local base.

Not much out there that a Ma-Deuce can't fix real quick.

I hunt in south Texas and if I needed meat I could kill a dozen by 8 am. Hell my 8 year old could do the same

Not to mention the main barrier would be what you posted about the population in metro areas. Most people wouldn't even be able to make it somewhere there is game to be hunted

Let's be real here. 9/10 of your shots will end up hitting a hog instead.

Visio mockup... done quickly, I think I'd need a solid 50 acres which is about what this scales to.

Green is forest, for lumber and firewood which would be needed basically every day. The crops are 3 sections of corn (mostly livestock feed) and 3 sections of "other" which would depend on the climate and season. There's a house, a spring house, a corn crib, a smoke house, a root cellar, a canning storage, a stable for limited livestock, a hen house, a wood shed, and a work shed. All the white space is fire break, cleared land. Could also be used for graveyard space.

Do you live in South Texas though? I've run through this scenario before. My family has a good amount of land in Greene County, AL, but I live in Collierville, TN. I'd hope we would have enough notice to get there before shite hit the fan

fricking rats

And no I probably wouldn’t even attempt to get there. I’m just saying hunting isn’t that hard.

If society broke down and power/water/sewage was cut off everyone would be fricked

I think you vastly overestimate the capability of your average mouth-breathing urban dweller in this country.

Yes but the people who know how
To catch and kill will need to do it often with no refrigeration/freezing. More people than you think can kill and catch. And they will have to do it daily.

There's ways other than freezing/refrigerating to preserve food. How the frick do you think people survived on long expeditions or on ships? You can salt meat, make jerky, can it, smoke it.

I think you're overestimating the number of people that could survive without modern conveniences such as grocery stores, restaurants, and fast food. Most people likely couldn't bait a hook, much less catch a fish.

Go walk around in Walmart or Whole Foods or darn near any grocery store and count how many people could likely survive by their own means.
