I understand the disdain for Pitbulls, school teachers, Democrats, travel ball baseball, etc. But why do so many posters on here take shots at the good people of the Oil & Gas industry? There are a few jackasses but most of them are ordinary people who actually want to work but are just victims of unfortunate circumstances
I believe it comes from the glee and gloating a decade ago when gas hovered between $3 and $4/gallon.

You can take the Baw out of the oil field, but you can't take the oil field out of the baw.
And FWIW, I have no ill will towards the oil field guys. But I also don't feel bad for them right now. They picked their industry, and they have to live with it. In both the good times and the bad.
As for me, I'll take my steady office job because I value job security. I may not make as much as the oil field guys when the price of oil goes through the roof, but I also have nothing to worry about when oil prices bottom out.

I wouldn’t say hate more than it’s just calling them out on their bullshite. Some of those guys graduate high school and are able to slide in as an operator at 19 years old and 100k because daddy is a toolpusher for BP, Exxon, etc...
They then buy every truck, toy, out of his league trophy wife, gun, boat, side by side, camper, 200k double-wide, 35 acres of property, travel ball shite, and matching New Iberia cuts for him and his 4 boys. Some earn 150k a year or more and have 138k in bills. They live it up and enjoy the hell out of themselves. They post Facebook pics of them and their old lady & kids in Destin. Constant F250 flex and living it up. Hell, I’ll admit I get a bit jealous. Wife and I both went to very good very expensive New England colleges. She has a Master’s. We’ve never been able to afford to do that kind of shite and whatever, that’s the lifestyle sometimes. I’ve enjoyed a career post military where I’ve done M-F and 9-5. Those guys work a ton of hours.
My problem with the baws is after spending years of gloating about the kind of money they make, driving around with the loud Jason Aldean blasting, the truck stickers (and Nutz), the $1000 a year deer hunting clubs, after ALLLLL that above listed shite they’ll all start crying on Facebook about how the oil industry is not fair and how inexcusable it is for a volatile industry to behave in a volatile manner. They start posting about how the Government is supposed to swoop in and save them. All these baws that post “cum and take em” memes about their guns allllllll of a sudden want some of that good ol gub’ment in their lives. Bottom line is don’t flex your arse off during the good times with all your expensive shite if you can’t handle the downturns.

I do not understand the issue here, tOT hates every single profession. If a person or a profession can't stand getting shite on from time to time (or all the time) there are safe spaces on the internet for them but it sure the hell ain't tOT.

Are people still grouping operators and oilfield workers together?
To me “oil field worker” refers to blue collar jobs like a roustabout/crane operator/crew boat captain etc.
Operators don’t really fall under blue collar. They have Inside operators that sit in the control room and adjust valve percentages to control the flow rates, pressures, temperatures and overall production. These people are some of your most experienced and valuable assets in a plant, a simple mistake can easily cost a company a few hundred thousand in equipment or production loss.
And there is the outside operator that makes rounds through the unit checking pressures, temperatures, looking for leaks etc. and also fills out work permits for the contractors to perform maintenance. These guys eventually start working in the control rooms if they prove themselves knowledgeable and experienced enough.

I am sorry for the people who will lose their income and I have many family members who will be hurting, but when you work in the oilfield you know what you are signing up for. When it is good it is great when things like this happen well you better have another source of income. I also see people posting on social media mostly from wives whose husbands work I the oilfield like I hope you enjoy your cheap gas while families suffer or some retarded shite like that. I did not see those people saying oh think of those poor people in non oilfield related jobs paying almost 4 dollars a gallon struggling to make it. Again it sucks for some people and it will benefit others.

Because they work in an industry that is inherently subject to even minute changes in market forces and global events in a way other industries aren’t.
They know that going into it. So don’t expect me to feel sympathy for you when the boom goes bust. You should have planned better and it isn’t our problem.
Many O&G are great hard working human beings who plan ahead and save money. We don’t hate those baws.
Many are fricking trashy idiots who blow their money the second they get it spoiling their “oilfield wives.” We do hate these baws.

Tree huggers complain about everything yet they never walk anywhere!!!!!
Jane Fonda is a perfect example. She used to fly to DC every week in a private plane to protest burning fossil fuels!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I do really well as a contractor. Having said that, I will not deny that a lot of the people in the industry are your stereotypical affliction/American fighter wearing douchebags. You can’t get away from it when you give trashy people (what they deem) a lot of money.
There are a ton of good, humble people, though. I see the bad mainly from the kids who are thrown into making adult money with no responsibility. Of course there’s adults that never grow out of that stage too.

Oil field workers sure as hell were flaunting it when we had to pay $3.99 a gallon for gas. I hate for anyone to lose a job though. It will all eventually correct itself.

I don't dislike them, but gas over say $2.50 is price gouging, plenty of money to be made by everyone keeping prices moderate.
But they love to brag about gas over $3 and what they are buying with their riches.

I think it has more to do with their actions than the fact that they're working in the oil fields.
They provide a service thats an absolute necessity.
But they also work in an unstable industry. Yet they will buy an $80k truck and possibly not be able to pay the note in a few months.

It’s jealousy, and that’s it.
I worked in the oil field for a good while. I went through one lay off, and then got hired on again. I saved my money then decided to form my own company. People can say it’s not jealousy, but that’s what exactly what it is.
