True story though - we went to Houston for Katrina, and it was towards the very end of Astroworld being open. It was pretty cool.

I didn't realize that it was open that long. We used to go a lot in the 80s.

Last time I went was in the late 80s. Lasted 3 hours. Extremely hot and crowded.

My final memories of Astroworld included the Mayan Mind Bender and LSD.

We went to Waterworld too when it was really hot. I'm a not a big theme park person so I had no clue it lasted as late as 2005.

Same as Pontchartrain Beach.

Maybe there’s a reason the successful parks charge premium prices.

Never heard of this before, interesting will have to check the rest of the series. Last time at AW was the summer of 81. My two buddies and I were slaying some Pasadena poon and took em there for a day. Good times.

Orlando in the summer is hottest place on earth

My BIL and SIL lived there and we visited a few years back and went to Universal at 9am. By 10 the heat index was 100 and I had the worst swamp arse I’d ever had. We had to leave at lunch to go change clothes

last time I went was probably early to mid 90s and I thought it closed shortly after that. No idea it lasted another decade.

An Astroworld/ Astros long weekend in the 1970s was glorious for any kid. Staying in a cheap motel, wearing those hideous 70s clothes, drinking Coca Cola out of the bottle, rock and roll on the radio On the way to the park . I miss that Houston.

It does, lots of rollercoasters at the merging of freeways 10, 45, 59, 69, 288. Some even do loops 610, 8, 99.
