Settle it: Who is #1 All-Time in LSU Men’s Basketball?

Here is how I see it:
Strictly college career? It’s Pistol.
Pro Career? It’s Shaq.
Both combined? It’s Bob Pettit.
Disagree?

My brain says Pete, but my heart says Shaq.

Petit and Shaq's pro careers are pretty close.

This would mean that pro careers are irrelevant and that the answer is Maravich and it isn't close.

This is stupid! It’s not even an argument Pistol Pete was the greatest college player of all time
If they would have had a 3-point line back then he would have averaged 55 points a game

Correct. He wasn’t exactly chopped liver in the NBA either. He was on the All NBA 50 year team and led the league in scoring at 30ppg one year.

Pete is the last white player to win NBA scoring title.

Not even close. Pistol Pete. No one like him before or since.

Saw both play; Shaq was power, but Pistol was magic...so, Pistol is still #1 All-Time. He may never be eclipsed.

It's Pistol, but I think Chris Jackson is a relatively close second. I've been an LSU/college basketball fan since 1977, and CJ is BY FAR the best college player I've ever seen.
You just can't argue against Pete. One little known fact about the Pistol: his last year with the Celtics, (after a major knee injury without the surgical techniques of today), he was 6-10 from 3 point range, and this was the first year the NBA adopted the rule. Imagine what he would have done in the pros (and college) with the 3 pointer.

Shaq was the best pro player, but he was NOT even the best LSU college player of his era. That would be Chris Jackson, and it's not as close as many think.

I love me some Shaq, but I’ll take the guy the arena is named after, thanks.

Pete by a mile.
It's not even close. He was the greatest College Basketball player ever. Alcindor was great but he was just physically superior in College.
If you had to bet your life on a guy to make a half court shot, it would be Pete.

As far as college/LSU goes there’s no discussion or debate; it’s Maravich all the way.
The debate comes in when we’re talking about NBA career. As far as Maravich goes, people tend to dismiss his NBA career. But his NBA career was pretty stellar, it was just cut short. The dude averaged 25 points per game career average. He only got to play 10 years due to injuries.
But we can’t deny what Shaq did in the NBA not only as an individual performer, but the championships on top of everything. I think on the whole Shaq probably had the most decorated NBA career followed my Petit and Maravich. But Pete is the greatest college player that there ever was and that there ever will be.

Maravich never won anything. All the Ben Simmons haters would've roasted him.
It's Pete btw.

Yes you are correct.
LSU- 2 SEC titles, Final Four
quote:
Pettit averaged 31.4 points and 17.3 rebounds per game during his senior year and once again led LSU to an SEC Championship and garnered All-SEC and All-American honors.
He set a then-SEC scoring record of 60 points against Louisiana College in his second game, and also the SEC record for scoring average, with both records being broken by Pete Maravich.
Pettit also was only the second player in major-college basketball history to average more than 30 points a game
NBA- ROY, 2x MVP, NBA champion
quote:
Pettit was an NBA All-Star in each of his 11 seasons (won the All-Star game MVP 4 times), was named to the All-NBA First Team ten times, and was named to the All-NBA Second Team once.
Pettit averaged at least 20 points per game and at least 12 rebounds per game in each of his 11 NBA seasons.
He never finished below seventh in the NBA scoring race and no other retired player in NBA history other than Pettit(min. 5 seasons) that has averaged more than 20 points per game in every season they've played (note: Michael Jordan averaged exactly 20 points per game in his final season).
