Mine has finally given up. What does OT middle market recommend?

26” Weber kettle is the correct answer.

I have this and a Weber genesis. I can’t recommend both enough. If you the Weber, get the cast iron grill grates.

There was a time I recommended nothing but Webers but no more.
I have a newer four burner genesis that simply doesn't sear well at all. The older models were so much better.
The ambient grill temperature gets plenty hot enough (up to 600 degrees) but it's searing ability is diminished. I think it may have something to do with the burners being too far from the grill grate. I dunno, whatever.
Anyway, the spirit line may be better. I think they still have the tube style burners and maybe that makes a difference.
If you want a genesis though, hit Craig's list and get an older model.
Or you could get a broil king. They have a good warranty and they're made in Canada, if that matters to you. Broil king is a good brand.

Double your budget and buy a BGE. You won't regret it.

I've got this camp chef model and I love it.
LINK
It comes with a large griddle top and can be expanded to the same dimensions as the standard camp chef griddle like you have.
Also, you can get custom fit accessories for it like an additional griddle top to fit over the 3rd burner (which I have) a pizza oven (which I have) and a grill box.
They say the grill box works really well and sears steaks perfectly but that it's cheaply made and will rust out in a hurry.
The pizza oven though is well made.

You're probably right.

I'd buy a Weber kettle and Blackstone griddle with $500, but that's me. Ymmv.

Gas, charcoal, pellet?
For gas, the Weber Spirit is a good one.
Academy has some Kamado grills in your budget that may be worth checking out.

Been having a Weber Performer for years.
I think they make a model without the gas assist starting. I use a charcoal starter on a portable stove to light the coals.
