Surge in At-Home Deaths in NYC

NYC has recently averaged 250 at-home deaths per day, up from 25/day prior to COVID. Obviously not all at-home deaths are due to COVID, but De Blasio said today that they are in the process of incorporating those numbers because most haven't been included in the official death numbers

No one was financially incentivized to say they were unemployed when they actually weren’t unemployed. Right?

Man gets struck by truck but has Covid-19. It's Covid-19's fault.

Woman gets shot but has Covid-19. It's Covid-19's fault.

Man gets hit by lighting but has Covid-19. It's Covid-19's fault.

This is like the 2020's version of "You might be a red neck".

Gotta bump those numbers up!

Companies are “firing” employees to take advantage of the benefits and are gonna rehire them immediately!

It’s a hoax!

None of that is false.

It just has nothing to do with the high probability that more people have died of COVID than being reported

None of this true.

But this board has become a haven for people who fabricate things out of thin air and then declare it fact.

Basically no one is dying of heart attacks or strokes anymore.
This keep getting parroted on this board, yet no one has been able to provide data to back it up. The reason for this is most likely because such data is typically not available until months to years after the fact.

Where are you guys getting this fake news?

The cause of death form now states if they "believe" Corona had an impact to list it as cause of death.

There was an anecdotal report (it may have been an op-Ed but I’m not sure) entitled “Where have all the heart attacks gone?” by a doctor in NY saying that his ER was seeing a reduced amount of heart attacks and strokes during this COVID pandemic. There were no statistics involved, it was purely observational. It involved a single hospital in NYC.

So the one time you trust the NYT, it's a fluff piece with no actual data. Just anecdotes and a very limited bit of data from Spain. That's about right.

It even suggest the most plausible explanation for the perceived drop in heart attacks, and that is people are avoiding hospitals.

Anyway, I fully expect to see this talking point repeated ad nauseam for the next year or two until the actual data is available. And then after the data shows an insignificant change in the number of heart attacks, the nuts will say the data is faked.

Yeah I believe that's what SFP linked above. The entire article was based on the anecdotal report and a fricking Twitter poll.

I assume you saw the thing a few days back about a roughly-tenfold spike in daily NYC deaths at home, which go untested, and coincide with the high number of daily CV deaths?

2019 vs 2020 paramedics reports; COUNT_83 represents calls where they were reported dead on-arrival

That is one of the issues, you have to do blood gas to get a legit SPO2. A pulse ox won’t give you a legit number.

So? The flu kills an estimated 291,000 to 646,000 people worldwide every year.

We're not quite a third of the way to a really mild flu season and only 550,000 deaths short of the worst flu years. Shut it down each flu season?

As predicted, morons will compare covid deaths under extreme precautionary measures to typical flu death numbers and ask what was the point.
