Is working from home more beneficial?

As the Invisible Enemy occupies us more people are working from home than ever before. I guess I never realized just how many actually can.
Can this be the new norm? Is society better for it?
Less traffic - less emissions - increased family time - less demand on corporate (physical) structure - etc. You can add a lot to the list.
Is this better for humanity?

I've settled into this working from home thing quite nicely.

There are companies discussing how this will change how they look at working from home. It can significantly reduce office space needs and G&A.

GumboPot - You sound pretty positive about it. I'm furloughed presently.
Would you say your life is better working from home?

It's not all bad but,
the refrigerator being too close is a constant danger.

Hopefully this will result in more work from home scenarios

There are certainly benefits. And I suspect more people will work from home, at least some of the time.
I'm just not near as productive from home. Maybe if I had a full home office, I could be.

I take that in jest!
However, it raises the question of health.
Being home more would allow for more rest, more exercise, etc.
Would it lessen the burden on HealthCare systems and make things better?

There are some nice things about working from home. I do not have space to close a door and isolate from my kids, so it's tough at times. I would have to figure something out, and probably get some more equipment if this became required.
I can definitely see companies expanding working from home. It would significantly cut their overhead costs.

Of course, I had to have some fun with the word order in your thread title.

I could see a portion of my job being "work from home". that's always been a possibility in my mind anyway, but not necessarily from the people who sign my check currently. however, having the kids at home at the same time... HORRIBLE.

It has benefits and drawbacks.
I have spent less on gas and put fewer miles on my car. You may also eat out less, saving money that way.
But if you work in an office where you like your co-workers, you start to miss them. (Of course, conversely if you have bad co-workers, you don't miss them at all.)

I used to do it on occasion before retirement, and I found I could accomplish more at home in a day than I could at the office. Less workplace distractions, and as a benefit, you can get the laundry done and stay in your gym shorts.

I’ve worked out of an office I my home for 17 years. It takes a lot of self discipline to work from home so it’s not for everyone

Who are you going to sue for a workplace injury?
It’s the little things people.

Yes. For those able to work from home, we should all do it a couple times per week.
When this is over I expect people will appreciate being at the office a lot more though.

I don’t like it. I like getting out of the house and face to face interactions.
