British Prime Minister Boris Johnson has been moved to the intensive care unit at St. Thomas’ Hospital in London after testing positive for coronavirus.

A spokesperson for 10 Downing Street said Johnson had been moved to the ICU “on the advice of his medical team” after his condition worsened Monday afternoon.

“The PM is receiving excellent care, and thanks all NHS staff for their hard work and dedication,” a statement read.

Johnson was hospitalized Sunday, a week and a half after testing positive.

Foreign Secretary Dominic Raab has been deputized.

A statement from 10 Downing Street earlier Monday said Johnson was “in good spirits” and had a “comfortable night.” It’s unclear what changed or how accurate that assessment was.

You would think the prime minister would have been sent to the hospital on day one.

The pills aren't effective once you're at the stage where you require a vent.

(Nice, six Trumpkin downvotes but it is 100% true, kiddos). The pills are mostly a prophylactic and only potentially effective at early stages. Or, quite frankly, just a placebo for people who would just experience mild symptoms without further complications.

There isn't even anecdotal evidence the pills helping those who are already in respiratory failure.

I think he was seeing a doctor from day 1, just not in the hospital.

Didn't he vote to cut funding for the NHS? Maybe he should have some private physicians looking in on him.

Boris being a pretty big dude is probably why he's having some issues.

This would suck pretty bad if he kicked it.

He should have listened to the medical professionals and never gone to hospitals housing CV19 patients so he could shake everyone's hands.

I don't know about the pills but approximately 70% of patients don't ever come off the vent.

So? Is the NHS never in need of funding cuts?

If you're at the stage where you need a vent, you're days are numbered.

quote:

The largest study so far to look at mortality among coronavirus patients on ventilators was done by the Intensive Care National Audit & Research Centre in London. It found that among 98 ventilated patients in the U.K., just 33 were discharged alive.

The numbers from a study of Wuhan, China, are even grimmer. Only 3 of 22 ventilated patients survived.
