How Did China Fool Us So Badly?

I often assume that our government has the intelligence capacity to know a lot about our adversaries that they never put into the public eye. I considered that a safe assumption. But, this Covid thing, makes me think that our government has no more clue about what is really going on in China than I do.
Fauci gave an interview on Jan. 26, in which he basically said that people in the United States shouldn't worry about Covid-19.
Redfield (head of the CDC), had ineffective tests for Covid-19 when asked to begin testing in this country.
Birx said, this week, that our response to Covid-19 was initially uncertain because China gave inaccurate "data".
I'm going to take all of these people at their word (dangerous, I know). Which means, we had no idea as to what was really going on in China when Covid was running rampant in that country.
If that's true, does that mean that the U.S. doesn't have a single human intelligence asset on the ground in China to give us the real scoop on what is happening there? We don't have a mole … anywhere … in the Chinese government that could have told us, "hey, don't believe the party b.s., this virus is gonna kill you when it escapes China"?
We don't have communication intercepts, or satellite imagery that can clue us in? Are publicly accessible satellite images that any clown with a functioning browser can find the best we've got to look at?
Are we really relying on YouTube videos that are haphazardly posted by Chinese dissidents as our only means of intelligence gathering against our strongest enemy?
Early on in the Obama administration, a number of our intelligence assets were rounded up in China and disposed of by the Chinese government. It set back our intelligence gathering capabilities in that country by decades. No clear answer was ever given as to how China became aware of those assets, but only two possibilities were vetted in the media … either we had a mole that tipped the Chinese off, or they were compromised when China gained unfettered access to Hillary's emails.
If the Covid crisis is a real world result of our complete lack of intelligence gathering capabilities in China then that's a problem much tougher to fix than this virus.
However, the alternative position, that we do have assets in China and that we knew the truth about what was going on and that someone made the decision to withhold that information from Fauci, Redfield and/or Birx (or Trump?) is terrifying.

Yes, and now Trump is supposed to trust this same fellow with setting the timeline for us to go back to some form of normalcy.

Yet this is the scenario the current administration has dealt with from day one... In addition to focusing on a needless peach mint defense...

By the liberal media running cover for them and the democrats sham impeachment meant to distract.
Neither was a coincidence either

Six years ago, the cia lost somewhere around 15-20 high ranking assets in China after their coms system was discovered by the PRN. That is a big loss and hard to just replace. Also, the was leaked report in Bloomberg this week from the IC saying the numbers from China are extremely under reported. Possible 40k dead just in Wuhan. Also, hard to acquire intelligence when Chinese police are locking people in homes from the outside.

I suspect medical/pandemic intelligence gathering is a specialized subset of intelligence which is further complicated with the target country is suppressing its own medical communities' findings.

Fauci's motto during this whole virus thing - "don't hold me to it". That's all I need to know about this man.

They didn't. They took advantage of our interest in cheep shite for years then got pissed when someone finally stoood up to them. We fooled ourselves.

Complete Intelligence Failure. They also missed that as China was saying this is nothing. China was buying all the worlds PPE and ventilators in January.
But also it was the perfect storm. It came during impeachment. When trump was so focused on media and democrats muh Russia and muh impeachment attacks. And that’s all the democrats and media was worried about.
The other thing that helped create this perfect storm was SARS, H1N1 and MERS were nothing burgers. So everyone just didn’t take this seriously. They kept saying oh swine flu this or SARS that. It gave us a false sense of confidence.
One more thing that contributed to this perfect storm is how vulnerable we are because we moved our manufacturing overseas (especially PPE).

They have the head of WHO on their payroll.

Easy, media class, nba, Hollywood, liberal elites all
In the tank for China and doing their bidding by propaganda. Let’s not forget the stooge plant as WHO director. China sees this as an opportunity to lie and the convince the world they should be the global currency. China needs to be dealt with after this with a global swift force.

There’s no doubt smart people in every agency. But like at your place of work, you are mostly surrounded by idiots.

They pay/bribe/extort our media into running the narrative favorable to their goals.
Wake up people.

China doesn’t owe anybody an explanation for this. They already had a few problems when this started, lol. frick China.
But look what they did to our nation without firing a shot. No matter their final death numbers...it was worth it to them (short term).
If you just step back and look at how it’s playing out - it is brilliant. Everybody outside our nation - and many inside - are loving this.
And we did it willingly.

I knew it was really bad in December. My wife works for disney. And they were getting apocalyptic emails and texts from their hong king and shang hai locations. Like “please help, my coworkers are dying” type stuff.

They own our media. That's why the media focused so hard on Russia when China is a greater threat to us. That's why the media hates how Trump is using tariffs to force fair trade from China. That's why the media is focused on Trump instead of China with this virus.

quote:They didn't fool us. We knew it was bad. South Korea and Japan started aggressively screening passengers on January 3rd. We didn't start screening aggressively until the very end of January, and even then we had tunnel vision on China.
How Did China Fool Us So Badly?
Then our dimwitted President ignored and downplayed everything until the 2nd week of March.
