Lack of meaningful Covid stats

is frustrating. Here in AL we get total of confirmed cases statewide and by county. Nothing on recoveries, hospitalizations or vent use. I hear that the number of Covid admissions at UAB has declined and stabilized, with discharges offsetting Covid admissions. With all the screaming about medical capacity and vent shortages, it would be helpful to know what the situation is. And if the number recovering is close to or equal to new confirmations, that tells me we are in a pretty good place. Our leaders must have this info. If they are going to ask us to remain shut down, they should share it with us. And of course, the media is doing nothing.

Meaningful stats and the sky-screaming by the news wouldn't jive with one another?
Posted on 4/1/20 at 5:58 pm to SloaneRanger
The only truly meaningful stat would be how many people have actually already caught this crud and are over it. An antibody test , anything else is just Afterthought.

You aren’t going to get recovery numbers for a long time.
Just have to accept it
Just have to accept it

I love it when the thin privileged think we should open their gyms and juice bars back up because they know it won’t be bad for them. People of size are dying by the thousands and all you people are worried about is your 6 pack

I can't believe that the state of Alabama itself is not publishing recoveries, hospitalizations and vent use.
Most other states are. In NY, state and city officials have been updating these numbers daily for 2 weeks.
Seems Alabama not publishing them just adds to the sense of unease since most people will assume that they'd certainly put them out if they were good news.

I suspect that it is the opposite. If I had to guess we are nowhere close to testing hospital and vent capacity and won't be. If you want to shut everything down on the premise that it is required to keep our medical system afloat, fine. Just level with us and tell us the truth. We are adults. We can handle it.

Yeah, that was kind of my point.
Whatever reason state leadership has for not publishing these daily when most other states are (of which I'm aware), it just makes it seem worse.
Maybe they've had issues simply compiling data and don't want to admit that.

Or another theory is that if they publish the numbers they are very low, well under capacity, and the politicians and media won’t be able to fear monger anybody into suffering for no reason. Florida keeps freaking out due to Miami while the rest of the state has very few cases for the most part and certainly well under 50% of hospital capacity. Most of our citizens got it from traveling elsewhere because we have a lot of 2nd homes and visitors.
Nola has Mardi Gras at potentially one of the worst times possible for it to occur due to this virus. That’s likely a major reason for Louisiana’s issues right now. Outside of some big city hot spots that have a lot of travelers, many places in the USA have very few cases compared to hospital capacity.

Nah, man, it’s not a conspiracy. It’s just that all the smart people in your state are on Nick Saban’s shadow staff.

We have a little over 1000 "confirmed cases" state wide in AL and 299 in Jefferson County. I'll bet that at least a quarter of these "cases" are now recovered, but you never hear about that. Instead, the media just keeps adding to the number. Hell, I keep hearing stories of people who are essentially over it by the time they get their positive result back.

All the numbers you could want from Johns Hopkins
Zoom in on the map for state and local info.
I don't think anyone has the numbers on down to the hospital level.

I agree. We have to piece together what may happen to be said by multipe sources, and that doesn't really help. They have models from other states they could follow, but for whatever reason they choose not to.

I know about Johns Hopkins. It gives you confirmed cases and deaths. That's it.

It gives you recoveries too, like I said I don't think stats exist on the individual hospital level, if they do then it's only the states that have them and in that case if they do you are right they are not being released in detail.

Do the recoveries make you feel better about the deaths?
Posted on 4/1/20 at 8:10 pm to DoUrden
That says no one has recovered in Mobile County. I don’t fricking buy that.

I haven't seen that map. I like this one.
It shows that the US has 4,757 deaths and 8,574 recoveries.
There will never be away to know the real numbers, which would probably be a lot higher.
But I know these China numbers are not accurate but this is just too obvious.
Deaths: 3,316. Recovery: 76,405..

It doesn’t list recoveries for most of the dots across the country

No. But the ratio of recoveries to newly confirmed cases seems like important information to me.
