That pic is the Q train. It is by far the nicest line especially on the upper east side.

Born and raised in Louisiana. I love using subways and trains when traveling and realize how far behind we are when it comes to public transportation.
If you like NYC subway, check out Montreal’s underground. It’s 20+ miles of tunnels and trains and shops that are connected so you can travel all over town without going out in the cold. Pretty amazing.

I rode it for the first time last summer while on vacation. I stayed in Mid-town and used the subway and my feet to get around. No way was I going to Uber during my trip. It was fascinating. An entire underworld of tunnels, signs, shops, people, etc. It was a true ‘slice of life.’ I split away from the group I was with and took the rails to Coney Island, Citi Field, and Yankee Stadium, as well as around Manhattan. Every station seemed to mean something different for someone, it’s own identity. For me, there was something special about going downstairs into a furnace, inhaling a musty, stale scent, riding in a car, and emerging from beneath to an entirely different neighborhood. Most of my travels are out West to some of nature’s great sites. I enjoy cities, but it’s nice to get away from the hustle. Something about NY was different. Those subways were fricking awesome.
I can understand this. Nice descriptive post.
I could see myself doing the same thing, expect with my camera along.
I visited New York City a few times years ago, pre 9-11, but I didn’t ride the subway.

Eh, not really that much different from any other major urban cultural hub like Madrid, Rome, London, Berlin, Paris, etc.

Except this is America and we are better than them

The only thing worse than the NYC subway is the Underground in London.
What are you talking about? The underground is the nicest subway system I’ve ever been on by a long shot.

I mean - really?
Other than having large populations and some degree of density, none of those places remind me of NYC at all

Yes he has. Did you not see him say he’s been there done that? (Regarding living in a city)

It's def a human accomplishment.
One of my highlights of visiting NYC was hopping around on the subway..
You always see it in movies and TV, but experiencing it is just special.

I rode around in London and thought it was fine. Also rode trains in Italy and enjoyed it.
We took the train from Rome to Florence and back. It was fine. The Virgin train from London to Wales was also cool. When we were in London, The Underground, while definitely cleaner than NYC, was way more packed with people. My main complaint about mass transit is too many fricking people. Y'all can keep that sardine shite.
