Ted Talks Yay or Nay?

What’s the OT’s view on Ted Talks? Personally I’ve seen some pretty good ones, they are usually very informative. I fell down the YouTube rabbit hole recently and started watching a bunch. Does anyone have any good suggestions?

Mostly pretentious garbage with the occasional informative one.

I remember back in the day they were all pretty good for the most part but they seem to have diluted their brand a bit over the years.

How a blind man uses echolocation to "see" the world.
This is pretty amazing. The guy lost his eyes to cancer and uses a series of clicks to perceive the objects around him. It's incredible what the brain can do.

There are some real, real awesome ones but quite a few more worthless, ego stroking, pretentious ones.

Don’t those involve science and progress? No thanks. Take that liberal shite elsewhere

It was hard for me to take Ted talks seriously after they had a hypnotist on there hypnotizing members of the audience.

Ted talks are for dumb people who want to feel smart

Maybe that was a Ted X talk? Because those are usually random people and not really ted talks

Never got much out of them. Jocko Willink one was good.

What are some “awesome” ones?

Like them better before CNAs and nursing school dropouts at the local nursing home started going on social media rants about COVID19 and ending them with “Thanks for coming to my TED talk.”

For the most part I find them interesting.

I think the X talks are people who pay to give them. Which as the other poster pointed out has diluted their brand tremendously.

Does anyone remember the Commonwealth Club radio programs? Usually ran on Sat or Sun mornings as part of radio stations PSA quotas.

I'll try to find it, but one of the earlier ones was really interesting. Young girl explaining the importance of unintrusive and affordable health testing. She developed a product that could take a drop of blood and you give you a full medical rundown in minutes. Sounded crazy and almost too good to be true! I wonder where she's at on it
ETA: Found it
