Just how much of an athlete is Stingley?

Compared to the likes of Deion Sanders or someone of that magnitude, how does Sting match up? Is he a possible 4.2 guy? Could he become one of the all time DBs in CFB history?

don't think he's good enough to equal or surpass Deion though.

I think he’s a very good athlete with top level measurables who has great technique, ball
Skills and is mentally a high level competitor.
He is not an elite player with the ball in his hands though. Good. Not great.
Elite ability as a cover man. Average sec
Player on offense or return teams imo.

He doesn’t need to be a 4.2 he’s actually got the skill set package better overall than Neon Deion

Doesn't Stingley have some sub 4.4 times on the book?

He matches up with Deion Sanders and Charles Woodson!!
I mean, look at his body of work as a Freshman CB in the SEC West and how he and LSU took care of 7 top 10 teams' best WR as he basically shut them down. Led in Int and pass breakups and that play against that tall WR from Texas, heck they did not even dare throw to that side of the field after that spectacular attempt of the interception.
His speed is elite, his technique is off the charts, and he proved that as a freshman in the toughest Conf, League, and one of the hardest schedules ever- he basically dominated! So, if you compare Sanders and Woodson and the other best ever CB's against Stingley as Freshen, then Stingley had the better season.

4.2? Man, some of y'all have no idea how stupid you sound with some of the shite you say. That's ridiculous. Lol.
There's only been like 9 players to run the 40 at 4.29 or better. Nobody needs to be that fast in order to be a great nfl player. Matter of fact, none of the guys beside champ Bailey turned out to be worth shite and you've never heard of them. Henry ruggs ran a 4.27 and he will prob be pretty good, but it's nuts how people think you have to run a 4.2 crazy 40 time when in reality, the best players don't run that or anywhere near that. People get caught up on players times and shite too much. Stingley is a hell of a ballplayer and has a chance to be one of the best of all time. Just watch his tape and you can see that, you don't need to see him run a 4.2 for that.

I'm not sure he is the purely physical specimen even some of our folks (e.g. PP7) are as far as sprinting and jumping.
What he has is body control (and certainly enough speed, acceleration and strength to play the ball), football knowledge/instincts and ball skills that you just don't see in a kid fresh out of high school (or, now with 1 hell of a year).

Being a corner is about covering a receiver, breaking up passes and interceptions. Stingley will be probably be regarded as the best corner in CFB for 2020. As far as history? I guess we'll just have to see.

Just looking at Freshman stats, it is hard to make a determination. Sanders is a legendary figure so that is a tall task but I do believe he is close to that.
Lets look at stats, though comparing any one year, freshman in particular, is dicey at best.
Sanders
30 PR 255 Yds 8.5 YPA 1 TD
1 INT 100yds 1 TD
Stingley
17 PR 163 Yds 9.6 YPA 0 TDs
6 INT 17 Yds 2.8 YPI 0 TD
1 FR
Sanders had 14 INTs his 4 years at FSU. Sanders also scored 6 TD, 3 on Picks, 3 on punt returns. He had an astounding 126 punt returns for 1,429 yards in his time at FSU. I think the big thing about Sanders initially was that he was a multi sport athlete who also played baseball and ran track at FSU at a very high level.
Being a top level multi sport athlete who legitimately competed at every level will always place guys like Deion and Bo, rightly or wrongly, on a different level with single sport athletes when comparing who is "the best athlete"

Sting is more athletic. Sanders had great stats & hype, but his speed covered his lack of technique.

True 4.2 40s are extremely rare. So I say no on that front. But him being one of the best college DBs I'll say yes, he's got a great start to his college career.

Sting doesn’t have quite as much speed on the track as Deion, but he still will likely turn in a sub 4.4 40.
Stingley is also bigger and stronger than Prime.
I think the Charles Woodson comparison is a good one for Stingley. He is a generational player.
Also, to the guy who said no sub 4.3 guys are any good at football: Randy Moss says hello.

Look we all love DS and he may go down as one of the greatest Tigers ever.
But Deion is a HOF football player and was a starting outfielder in MLB.
He and Bo Jackson are the 2 greatest athletes of my lifetime and it’s not even close.
ETA: I’d put Herschel Walker up there too

Times were different for Deion. He didn’t play this level of sec ball.
This is why LSU is recognized as the best team of all time.....as a team.
Domination of the best conference and then the best team in Clemson. Stingley was one of the main reasons.
Deion was great. But you’ll never know how good he was in a crap ACC.

He may not run 4.2 but for sure 4.3. His ball skills are among the best. His technique as a DB, for a freshman, is stupid good. I have been watching LSU play since the early 80s and he is hands down the best Freshman DB I have ever seen.

He legitimately could have played in the NFL while he was a high school senior. He is a pretty phenomenal athlete.
FWIW, I coached high school football in Texas for a few years, did radio for for a few and saw Stingley play in every high school game he participated in. IMHO, I have a decent eye.
