John Kennedy just said on the news that if your laid off you can get $800+ a week from unemployment!

That is $20 an hour for a 40 hour week of work or $41,600 a year!

Is there a timeframe for these kinds of benefits? Doesn’t seem sustainable to me and talk about low income employees not going to work now!

He's incredibly wrong.

Most you can get is 247 before taxes.

My butler's personal assistant finds that much pocket change in the sofa every week.

I heard that too. Aren’t the feds going to supplement the state’s payments if your lay-off is COVID related?

Is this the first time you ever examined the United States Welfare system?

Good. Open your eyes. It’s insane how much the 50% of this country that actually pays taxes covers for the leeches.

That’s part of the problem with the bill right now. Lindsey Graham said if you live in SC you would get $24.17/hour on unemployment. Gives the incentive for employers to lay people off. Who would want to go back to work making that kind of money?

Trump said that self employed/1099 contractors are also going to be eligible for the portion the Fed is funding.

It will be abused.

I got about 230 or so a week a couple years ago

If it’s $800 why would people work if they could collect that

One time I filed for unemployment and I think I got just over $150 a week. There would be less incentive for people to find a job if they were getting $800 a week.

Damn I didn’t get layed off. I asked to take a 3 week break 5 weeks ago waiting for a government job( electrical) and damn now they say they may shut down the base. I’ll miss out on free money. Insert banging head against the wall.

Oh yeah god forbid some poor people make a bit more than their regular paycheck for a few months during a crisis.

A steaming, pile, crock of shite. This whole situation should be eye opening to some. This isn't even a fricking crisis compared to some of what we've seen and the world is shut the frick down. Now we've tacked on trillions to the national debt and tanked the economy over Mildred and Frank dying a year early. Didn't hear as much of a peep over H1N1, but somehow, this is the one we should burn it all down for.
