At least they said they’ll still put out fires
I wonder if cops will stop writing tickets because they’re practicing social distancing.

In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Monroe Fire Department will temporarily stop responding on emergency medical services calls.
Acadian Ambulance serves Ouachita Parish and will continue to provide all EMS services.
Chief Terry Williams mentioned the possibility of cutting EMS response at a prior date and said the department would make the decision when the first COVID-19 cases were confirmed in Ouachita Parish.
The first two cases were confirmed Saturday and the total grew to nine Monday with one resident death.
Williams said the department's EMS coordinator contacted him today and recommended the move.
"This has been a very difficult decision for me," Williams said, "but as I think about it, when we respond to EMS calls, we go from house to house, and we do that constantly — all day and sometimes all night — and what we find right now is that we don't have the proper protective equipment to deal with the pandemic we are experiencing. Not only do we increase the exposure to our personnel, but we increase the exposure to the public."
MFD will continue to respond to all fire-related calls, technical rescue calls and any automobile accident, particularly those requiring extrication.
"We are going to hand it over to Acadian Ambulance, and I feel confident they are going to do a good job," Williams said, noting Acadian has the personal protective gear needed.
MFD plans to reevaluate the decision after the state stay-at-home order is lifted.

Moral of the story is if you’re injured get someone nearby to start a fire.

I like how they take the gigantic fire truck to a call of someone having chest pains

In Dallas the big trucks run in front of the ambulances to clear the traffic.

The dept I work for in N LA is still responding to EMS calls but we are not making patient contact if we can help it. We do not run an ambulance service and run all EMS calls with a parish wide EMS system (it is not Acadian or med express this is run by the parish). If we do have a call where our unit gets there before EMS gets there, one person will dress out in gown, gloves, goggles, and mask and then go make patient contact. But, if we can avoid patient contact, our admin does not want us making any patient contact.

Seems like a nice waste of resources

Most of the time that big gigantic fire truck will get there well before an ambulance, if you or a loved one were having a cardiac emergency I’d imagine you’d be pretty happy to see it arrive...

I plan to find out on my way to work in the morning depending on how much traffic is on the interstate.

The NOFD won't get a body danglin' off a building.
Monroe FD says hold my beer, we won't even respond to calls unless we see flames.
edit: it's hard to even hate. These dudes are underpaid.

Yeap, I made the unholy mistake of calling one of them a fireman the other day instead of a fire fighter. Guess it’s my mistake, didn’t realize they were that sensitive about it

You can't do that with a Tahoe?

Thats a fair question, but most of the time it is more cost effective to send a big fire truck. There is a minimum staffing on a fire truck and you would have to have additional staffing to support an SUV unit that would need a minimum of two people. The cost in salary for the additional 2 people is more than running a fire truck to the medical call.

I drove 600 miles along I-20 from Texas to Mississippi yesterday. I didn’t see a single person pulled over or any speed traps. And my radar detector didn’t pick up any police radar either.

Why should there be a duplication of services? Does Acadian run fire calls?

I've had to make a call in the middle of the night. It's comforting AF to see that big rig rolling down your street.
