That isn't a conspiracy theory though. It's documented fact.

lo and behold

The lo is thought to have originated from the shortening of the word look.

Three posters used the "low" version in this thread. In a few years, Webster will probably give up and include it as an accepted spelling.

Don't take it personal. I thought it was common knowledge that our phones, ipads/tables, computers pick up sound which includes our conversations. That is part of collecting our data that is used to better target what products to advertise to individuals.

If I came off as a dick, that wasn't my intentions.

Do u think our govt, NSA, isn’t listening in as well? Do u actually think it stops at marketing? Why did our govt build huge server complexes out in the middle of no where? They are collecting and cataloging everything we say. Even if it is for our own safety, I do not trust that it will stay this way. Look at China. They are social scoring people based on your internet history etc. Wait until they start arresting people for talking bad about Xi and the party without actually posting about it.

While the government has the ability to listen to everyone with a cell phone and other electronic devices, I know they do not listen to EVERYONE's conversations/audio. It would take a lot of time and man power for them stay current on every single person; however, they can run queries to search for certain words, phrases, etc.

Do I have a problem with it? I would rather them not have the ability to access everyone's data because that gives them too much power, but on the other hand if it is used JUST to protect us then I don't have as much problem with it. And I do think it does help to keep us safer.

So there is a gray area here. In order to use technology that makes our lives easier we have to be okay with the fact that the government and other entities can access information that our devices collect. The information that is collected is used to better target us in advertising and to keep us safer (in theory).

Yeah, that's how smartphones work today. The reasoning companies use is it enables them to tailor the user experience to you.

It's funny to me people are cool with private companies doing it, but lose their minds about government data collection in the Snowden sense and through FISA.

Made an afternoon fishing trip last week. Had engine trouble and had to get towed in. Next day I was getting "repower with Mercury Outboard" advertisements.

You can literally turn this off in settings. The companies don’t advertise it but it’s not a secret. Again just search YouTube and you’ll find a video telling you how to configure your phone to where it can’t listen to you.
