Setting up your economy to distribute scarce resources more evenly is what they want.

Also, they aren't socialists
Also, that's exactly how you set up an economy that disportionately benefits the rich

People who think like that guy only understand economics from a political perspective so you can't really have honest conversations about it.

This wasn't true until Trump got into office. It really isn't true now. They are just using it to attack Trump.

Which candidate running for president is perfect? When you figure that out, let me know. I'd love to vote for that person.

ETA: This can be from any presidential election in the history of humanity. Give me one example.

It’s really more basic than that. To republicans, the government and the people are two separate entities. The government’s job is to serve the people. It is possible for government to thrive while people suffer, and vice/versa.

For democrats, the government IS the people. If the government isn’t doing well, the people are struggling too. If the government is on good footing, so must be the people. Citizens serve their government, which knows what is best for them and can correct their moral failings.

Republicans are not activist enough on social issues while Democrats are not consistent enough on governmental matters.

It’s not that they disagree and are on different sides of a general argument, it’s that neither side understands the other is arguing about something different entirely, which is why they never understand each other.

The two competing value systems are 'equality' and 'freedom'. You can't have both. They are polar opposite. Every move by govt to increase equality decreases some freedom.
Well said. Combine it with my post
quote:

I would analogize the Dem view of the role of government as being like an over-protective parent, providing for all of the needs AND desires of the spoiled kids.

I would analogize the GOP view as being like a crotchety grandparent who wants his progeny to take care of themselves and to live life much as HIS grandparents did.
and we have a damned good summary.

This is a big part of it. Progressives do things "for the greater good". The problem is that our society was built by people acting on behalf of their own best interests, and that undermines it.

I think the biggest issue that divides us is abortion. It has such strong emotions on both sides and was the main driving force behind the pink pu$$y hat March after DJT’s inauguration. The Dems have said if you are pro life there is no place for you in their party.

The issue divides families and its one of the main reasons Dems have TDS ... because POTUS is pro life. They are so afraid the SCOTUS will overturn Roe vs Wade.

Someone in another thread said yesterday that the most disgusting event is a pro choice rally where folks are yelling and cheering about killing babies. I agree.

This was a great question and several posters have nailed it.

The Left believes in more government. The government has power over the people.

The Right believes in less government. The people have power over the government.

It explains everything in a nutshell.
