I was there for both. Loved Shaq, but CJ gets my vote.

Chris Jackson

That 89-90 team was so talented. Should have gone further, but they never gelled. While I loved watching Jackson, it was like he had to get his 26-30 points a night no matter what. They weren’t a TEAM.

Shaq, in college when he was playing between 286 and 294 there was nothing like him ever. He could dominate both ends the way CJ never could. Shaq without CJ won 68% of the time, CJ without Shaq 63%. Shaq was better.

We agree on something. And in general, Shaq was a much more likable and personable guy.

I met CJ before the Illinois game when they dirt rolled us his freshman season. His condition seemed to make him introverted and shy to me but I didn’t feel like he was rude or anything like that. I sat with Mr. Harrison when we lost to UGA Shaqs last season here and he brought us right outside of the locker room to meet Shaq and Caesar. Shaq was pissed that we lost but he put on a good face, joked around with us and signed autographs. Caesar left the PMAC in what looked like a blue gremlin lol. Wasn’t as boxy in the back as a gremlin but everything else was identical.

But yes we do agree on Shaq. A lot of posters are younger and remember Shaq at over 330lbs or 340+ but at LSU you’ll remember he ran like a deer. He also had like a 28inch vertical at 7-1 and could cover so much ground. Nobody could get a clean shot off inside he was so athletic. I loved watching CJ don’t get me wrong but Shaq is a one of a kind player, there’s never been anything like him before or since.

Well I disagree with the Shaq thing. IMO Hank Gathers and Len Bias were better overall college players than Shaq.

I agree with you, Shaq wasn't as good in college as he could have been, he would go on to the NBA and develop into the dominate Shaq. But shite Stanley Roberts was more impressive in college with his soft touch and all shooting the ball. Shaq was just pure athletic ability in college with rebounding, dunking and stuff, and he didn't block shots like you think he would have like a Thomas Tyrus or somebody. But CJ was an incredible show in college, so the comparison of who was more impressive in college just isn't close imo.

Len Bias was a great player, a number 1 pick level player but Gathers isn’t in the same universe as Shaq and Bias. And as far as impact we can’t know what Bias would’ve been but there are a lot of guys comparable to him and none to Shaq.

Even in college Bias doesn’t stack up to Shaq.

Career
Shaq- 21.6ppg
Bias- 16.4ppg

Best season
Shaq- 27.6ppg
Bias- 23.2ppg

Career
Shaq- 13.5rpg
Bias- 5.7rpg

Best season
Shaq- 14.7rpg
Bias- 7.0rpg

Career
Shaq- 1.7 assist per game
Bias- 1.3 app

Best season
Shaq- 1.9apg
Bias- 1.8apg

Career
Shaq- 1.2 steals per game
Bias- 0.6spg

Best season
Shaq- 1.5spg
Bias- 0.9spg

Career
Shaq- 4.6 blocks per game
Bias- 0.7

Best season
Shaq- 5.2bpg
Bias- 0.9

It’s not really close.

Wow you must’ve never actually watched them play in college.

Ok. You never saw Bias play. He was a bigger MJ. He could do things on the court that Shaq would dream of.

Yea I saw him play and the fact that you’re calling him a bigger MJ means you didn’t. They aren’t even remotely the same type of player and arguing that a big wing or forward can do things a center can’t doesn’t prove anything. There’s plenty Shaq could do that Bias couldn’t as well.
