[Syria] Rebels Retreat from Aleppo

The jihadists have suffered disastrous losses over the last two weeks, trying to hold their lines in Idlib and Aleppo. Today, their lines in Aleppo broke.
Their position near Aleppo city resembled a long finger, curling toward the city from the west. Government forces launched two simultaneous attacks at the base of the finger, one from the north, and one from the south.
It appears this attack, and the weight of the casualties they’ve sustained over the past two week “catastrophic” were too much.
They’re now retreating towards Idlib.
The Turks don’t have much time to decide on a response.

Who are we pulling for in this shithole?

Technically we're pulling for regime change but we've also technically been fighting both sides. Don't you just love American foreign policy

I appreciate the post, and I like to follow this, but I just can't see an angle to this where I give a shite.

I’m pulling for the Syrians.
They’re killing a lot of jihadists.

Assad is probably the best bet for stability in the region

Lessons of Saddam and Gaddafi are that unsavory strongmen are preferable to anarchy.

The reaper. Let Jordan roll in to provide a half decent regime for the innocents who are caught in the middle

I’m pulling for no American involvement.

We don't need to be in a thousand year Syrian civil war.
They can civil war without us.
If they would like to buy American made weapons and equipment at a profit they are allowed to.

“Lessons of Saddam and Gaddafi are that unsavory strongmen are preferable to anarchy.”
And it took us 20 years and how many dead to relearn what the CIA already knew in the 1950’s.

I always knew Assad was never a problem for the U.S., but unfortunately, idiots like John McCain wanted us to believe some unknown group of 'rebels' served us better. Unbelievable- we would have had another Libya shithole issue with waring Islamic fanaticals!

Thanks Lima. You have shown yourself to be very well versed in affairs of the ME. Sometimes I agree and disagree with your views but I have come to respect your oft informative and credible posts.

Pretty much the entire Aleppo countryside has been retaken by Syrian forces. As far as area controlled by HTS really Idlib and Lattakia provinces are what's left. I assume Syria will continue going after those areas first. What will be interesting is once those areas are retaken. The northern part of Syria is controlled by Turkish proxies and Turkey military and then there are also areas controlled by Kurds. I assume Syria will negotiate more with Kurds and deal with them last.
