The first reactions to director Leigh Whannell’s new take on The Invisible Man are lauding the filmmaker as a “full blown master of horror”.

Some critics in the USA have had the chance to catch an early preview of the movie and, according to them, it’s “incredible” and “a masterclass in tension and terror”.

If the early buzz is to be believed, Upgrade director and Saw co-creator Whannell has produced something truly special.

#TheInvisibleMan is a terrifying masterpiece of futuristic horror noir brilliantly directed by #LeighWhannell .@elisabethmossofficial is outstanding in this one (like always)! You’ll FEEL every second of her claustrophobic fear and dread until the absolute last frame. #BenjaminWallfisch ‘s score for @theinvisiblemanmovie is already a contender for best score of 2020. You are not going to be able to let this one go for a LONG time. What an experience... (look for my spoiler review/set visit experience on my YT channel on Feb 25th!)

The Invisible Man is tension filled thrill-ride from start to finish. Leigh Whannell perfectly updates the 1933 classic for modern times as Elizabeth Moss delivers a haunting & captivating performance that is amongst some of her finest work to date. #TheInvisibleMan is intense

Wow: #TheInvisibleMan elevates @LWhannell to a full blown master of horror. Beautifully written, impeccably shot and some of the most suffocating moments of genuine terror you’ll ever experience.

WOW did I LOVE @LWhannell’s #TheInvisibleMan! It floored me. A spine-tingling modern horror classic in the making. Poignant & timely packed full of edge of your seat anxiety inducing suspense! Sound & production design are MASSIVE standouts but Elizabeth Moss OWNS this film.

Brief thoughts (since I've seen some others talking about it): W/#TheInvisibleMan, Leigh Whannell has crafted a masterclass in tension and terror, and I think my jaw was left on the floor at least twice. Completely thrilling, visceral and emotional.

My review of #TheInvisibleMan

?I needed to pee the entire film but couldn't move. Then got home and was convinced an invisible entity was standing in the corner watching me. It's *that* great. Incredible script, direction and Moss is

THE INVISIBLE MAN was fricking unreal. I loved every god damn second of that film even when it had me breathless at the edge of my seat. Leigh Whannell also came by afterwards to chat about the movie and left this lovely message on my poster

#TheInvisibleMan is a truly sinister, refreshingly modern take on H.G. Wells’ story! Grounded by horrific reality, I loved every minute @LWhannell got under our skin. From his incredible directing/writing + haunting performance by Moss, this is a prime example of elevated horror.

With #TheInvisibleMan @LWhannell has crafted the most suspenseful horror film since #GetOut in 2017.

Brilliantly staged, with a constant sense of anxiety and paranoia.

This is the definitive version of The Invisible Man story, and one you do not want spoiled. See it ASAP.

#TheInvisibleMan is one of the best horror films in years and @LWhannell has set the bar high for the rest of the year. It’s tense from start to finish in the same vein as a Hitchcock masterpiece. I seriously can’t recommend this movie enough, I plan to see it multiple times!

@RosieMarx

#TheInvisibleMan worked for me on a very visceral level. It's weird, sparse, and really fricking scary. As a survivor of abuse it was a new kind of horrifying that felt relatable to my experiences but ultimately cathartic.

Friends. Acquaintances. Strangers of the Twitterverse. PLEASE go see this movie when it comes out. I am embargoed, I can’t say much. It is patient & purposeful in its storytelling, REALLY earns all of its big moments, Elizabeth Moss is incredible. #TheInvisibleMan

I hope this film is great. I'm pulling for the dark universe to succeed.

Hmm. I can't say the previews blew me away, but movies that rely on suspense usually don't have crazy gripping trailers.

I really liked the first trailer released. Psychological horror and supernatural horror films are both undergoing a renaissance of sorts.

I thought dark universe is dead and they just finished this because it was already in production?

The commercial I just saw for it made me audibly laugh at how lame and cheesy it looked.

Watch Grace Randolph go and say that this movie is terrible, and you people go and say that it is Oscar worthy, just to spite her, despite the fact that yeah, it’s probably terrible

I’d pull for it if any of the films remotely resembled the Universal classics. So far I haven’t been interested.

Maybe people should check it out??

The trailers didn't look that exciting but a number of movies I really liked/loved had uninteresting trailers.

Bad Boys for Life is the most recent example for me. Film was good but the trailer was so generic or something.

I'm assuming he is simply invisible but can be felt. So, for example, to enter a room he has to open the door etc.? So, essentially he can be trapped.

Kevin Bacon was in a film called Hollow Man that was inspired by The Invisible Man.
I found that movie to be entertaining at times but that movie was from 20 years ago.

Jesus Christ, please tell me this isn't the reason it's getting good reviews

This movie isn't very good, I must report with sadness. Just not very tense or scary. Every jump scene or twist is predictable.
