In all seriousness, with his Harvard/Oxford education and service in naval intelligence, that is going to raise eyebrows on that side of the aisle.
Hell, I used to work in military intelligence, a lifetime ago at a very low level. Lefties would probably think I was CIA if I ran for office.

Grossly, this is probably the impact of the impeachment backfire. The impeachment attempt put Joe and Hunter Biden front and center for well over a month leading up to Iowa (and not in a good way).
Most of Biden's support in Iowa (at least white folks) apparently leaked to #MayorCheat, because he was the least bad alternative for those folks (I suppose). The DNC procedures to slow down/stop Bernie and, implicitly, help Biden then pivoted to Pete.
That may give him the momentum to be the key opponent of Bernie going forward. Now, if Warren drops out and endorses Bernie it is still over - that would be too much for the establishment to overcome, I would think.

that's another point I was getting at. they scoff at the idea of a deep state but say mayor pete is CIA and he's trying to steal the election nomination from bernie
