Plane delayed and they asked those with connections to get off and to be rebooked to their final destination. This was different than how most other airlines handle this but didn’t raise much of an eyebrow.

Next, they come back and say they need “8 to 9” people to volunteer to get off the plane due to weight. This is a first for me...flight is only 75% full now.

Hypothesis is that there is some heavy commercial shipment onboard. Anyone had a similar experience?

This happened to me. I volunteered and then they said we’re good now. Very embarrassing.

If 8 to 9 people make a difference to the weight on a commercial airliner I’d feel nervous about flying.

Pilots have a couple of expensive bottles of wine waiting for them at home and DGAF about you.

Yeah, I am surprised a couple thousand pounds would matter.

Happenned to me twice, delta, both times flying from canada to atl.

Freight weight.

I don't know about SW, but with delta if you volunteer to take another flight, the other flight is first class and $1000 voucher.

They didn’t state the amount of voucher. Time for takeoff

Had to change seats on a commuter flight to adjust the weight. I and another guy in the back traded places up front with a couple of smaller people.

Did they ask the fat people if they wanted to volunteer first?

You can bet your arse if they say they need some people to get off due to weight, I’m off that sucker.

Friend of mine is a southwest pilot. He told me once that they haul commercial seafood in the cargo half the time out of NOLA. I found that interesting.

Pay attention right before the flight and you’ll see them rushing to load the plane full of the cargo right before takeoff.

Crabs, tuna and dead bodies. Swa makes lots of $$$$ off that. Katrina hurt their crab numbers though.

Smaller seats means more people and greater weight on board.
Flew into Canada last fall and the airline elected to leave 1/3 of the luggage behind to catch up with us on a later flight. My luggage arrived 2 days later.
