I know some college professors making 40-50k. 10 years of education to make that.
Yeah my wife’s best friend is a college professor with a doctorate and might make 50k... I’m not judging, my wife doesn’t make that, but the only degree my wife has is a mrs degree and she makes like 42ish.

There is good (not great) money to be made by that 40 to 50 percent of the class who hustle. There are, of course, outliers in both ends of the spectrum, but the market is much better now than it was in 2009ish...

Yeah, it’s pretty shitty. Many don’t even being working and earning a living (if you call that earning a living) until they are in their 30s. Many are moving across the country several times doing Visiting Professor positions hoping to one day land a tenure track position which really doesn’t pay great. Then you spend so much time trying to write and publish to hopefully get tenure... if you don’t get tenure you are then 40 years old with no career

Video game developers - notorious for long hours, low pay relative to software development and terrible job security

My buddy just finished pharmacy school and his first job offer was $62/hr.
That’s pretty good.

Family doctor
Family medicine, internal medicine, and peda all make a lot less than most people think. Still great job and great profession, but it’s a LONG drop from say neurosurgery to pediatrics.

911 operator, or even much harder first responder dispatcher.
Listed as the second most stressful job on the planet, the national turnover ratio is 18 months, they are tasked with trying to save your or your loved ones' lives, their command and control centers are the first place targeted in time of war ...
yet they are paid terribly.

POTUS. I think salary is 400K. Which doesn't seem like much for the massive headaches involved.
Free room and board, free food, free transportation, free world class family insurance, lifetime pension, free security, etc.
I think they do ok

The welders you see running around in their own welding trucks (Rigs) make 225,000 to 250,000 per year IF they want to work.
You can own a muffin shop and make $250k a year...IF ya want to. Same with every other small business.

Family medicine pays pretty well actually. Better than it used to and you can moon light in podunk ERs for like 300/hr
83.7% of statistics are made up on the spot.
my wife can moonlight on the weekend for 3500
it would be a total of like 10 hours if actual work, if she is really busy

know a mechanic who makes 500k. Don’t ask me how I know, I just do
A good mechanic is valuable these days. They’re hard to find. Friend of mine is a good diesel mechanic for Case IH dealership and he gets paid close to 100k with benefits. Though you wouldnt know it by his ragged out f150...child support eats ol baw up

I'll tell you who's doing well in small towns across this country, and that's exactly who you just described. A competent, timely mechanic shop who has the knowledge and tooling to work on most any vehicle has always been a hot commodity, but they're dying out and in small towns if one or two still exists, they're slammed with work.
I'm not saying they net $200k a year, but I know of a few mechanic shops that I've no doubt in my mind gross that much and are an invaluable source of cash flow in their small town.

I know a master plumber who has to turn high dollar clients away in Nashville. He CRUSHES it.
ETA:
He’s the guy all the super wealthy get to do their bathroom and kitchen renos and additions and new construction. He’s awesome at his job. He’s basically an artist.
