Engineers? Seems they learn and master knowledge that few can but most appear to average about 150k.

Radio announcer/DJ

I won't lie - i thought of doing this when I was in high school. I enjoyed the dj's of 106.7 and 97.9 in the late 90s. Went to the KKND studios to pick up some concert tickets I had won and met Sig, told him I was heading to school and was considering going into the broadcasting field and he set the record straight of how little he made. I was shocked that they were basically minimum wage for a fairly popular station.

I've said before in this board that a competent, up-to-date with the newest methods plumber- especially one with the tooling and equipment to do new installs- can name his price and take the phone off the hook because he's booked out until infinity.

I am in real estate. I know of what you say, and I agree.

Hell I had a new shop built on a property and needed 800 feet of 1 1/2 inch poly pipe laid from where the boring company stubbed out my main and put in a meter all the way up to the new shop's slab. The plumbers who were capable were so far behind that I wound up building a pipe laying jig and welding it to a $150 Tractor Supply subsoiler and we did it ourselves. It would've cost me at least a couple thousand to get a plumber to do it, and I'd of gladly paid it, but what are you gonna do in a rural area with limited resources for provided services?

The capable plumbers I contract with were so snowed under and nonchalant about a job that would gross a few thousand dollars and only take a couple of hours to do- what does that tell you?

That plumbing contractors, particularly master plumbers and/or non-shade tree plumbers, generate impressive revenue.

Chemist, unless you can land a job at one of the big plants. Most chemistry jobs are either QA/QC or Environmental Testing.

Tv reporter/anchor

In the late 90s, I applied for a job at a TV station in BR. The job seemed interesting for gaining multi-faceted experience because I'd basically be doing everything (camera, editing, field reporting, in-studio on-camera, writing, directing, producing).

When I asked about pay, the general manager seemed annoyed and replied -- "we're competitive with minimum wage -- but you'll get a lot of hours".

This was not an internship position.

He said, "obviously due to the pay scale, we get a lot of turnover".

Yeah, no shite.

The correct answer is:
The job of a person who you just met that tells you how much they make...guess what, they don't.

Why is the average for a master plumber only $77,000? The guy you know must be top 2%.

Attorney for sure.

Most people think everybody getting paid like Johnny Cochran and Bobby Kardashian were or attorneys in movies and TV.

Most are making about the same as school teachers and office admin staff.

Only show that seems legit portray is Saul. Chick working for big firm but still driving a Mitsubishi and living in a shitty apartment. The 99% ain't Jimmy Smits or Cher's dad.

I dont know. Wouldn't you want more? Aren't they fairly susceptible to layoffs and downsizing? I'm asking questions because of my teenage kids and wondering what they'll end up doing.

Starting at $27k-35k annually in south Louisiana. Job market is not great for chemists as far as I know. Most "Chemist" positions are glorified lab tech jobs and don't pay much if any more.

Maybe I just got unlucky and got hired to a shite company out of college.

Best bet for a great job (plant based) is to get a lab tech job through a temp service like Kelly Services and work your way up.

In the modern business environment (all fields) it is about personal progression. Thinking about job security is a "boomer" mindset, no offense. If they are interested in the field, I would suggest searching for great projects vs looking at companies and get an MBA. So, so helpful. Learning how to socialize as an engineer has been my key skill. Most cant do it.

Everyone knows they dont get paid much. In Lafayette there was a shortage and they had other lawyers in there getting assigned cases to work pro bono.
