Common myth, room is free board is not, the president and family are billed monthly for all meals that are not part of a official function, laundry, even toilet paper in the residence. Family members are billed a rate equivilant to the price of a first class airline ticket to the same destination for any Airforce one travel that is not official business. Getting the monthly bill is one of the big surprises to new presidents.

In the 90s I was a television news producer in Chattanooga. 4 year degree and a couple of years of experience. I ended up asking to be fired and rehired as a freelance so that I could get a bump to 8 dollars an hour. I was producing 5+ hours of live television a week meaning I was solely responsible for the content and form of the show.

Engineers? Seems they learn and master knowledge that few can but most appear to average about 150k.
That seems good to me for a 4 or 5 year degree with little student loan debt.

Recording studio engineer. Your clients are musicians, who are typically poor AF.

Attorneys.
Woefully underpaid for a life of service to their fellow man.

I know a couple of Pharmacists that both started out of school at $105,000.....now, the long term increase is not encouraging.

Airline First officer (co-pilot) average salary $60k, some earn less than $30k with small regional carriers. Corporate and private jet pilots average $80k so half make less than that, some a lot less!

Actually, that's pretty spot on for Project Managers in Civil with around 10+ years of experience.
Now, Business Development leads and Principals make far north of that......but, that group is a much smaller percentage of CE grads. Successful TxDOT business leads are many times north of $300K base salary.

What is a "business lead?" Is that more of a head of the company job, or actual engineering?
Posted on 1/29/20 at 9:41 am to Jake88
That's going to be someone who likely spent 10+ years at TxDOT and moved to consulting with a stint of 10+ years of tangible success winning TxDOT work......someone with a very solid reputation as seen by TxDOT people.
I'd say 25+ years of experience.
But, not head of the company.....think of Director of Transportation as far as titles.
ETA: That person would be involved in project management/delivery by virtue of managing a team of engineers.

This. I know there's a good amount of corporate attorneys or high-profile defense attorneys that make decent money, but for the large part, they are very "meh" in the income department.
I would absolutely steer any kid away from law school, as the return on such an expensive (for no reason) education is quite plainly, beyond diminished.

Seems to be a ton of turnover for local sports reporters because of this.

Absolutely and with good reason. Sales is what makes a radio station work.
Glad to see the industry dying a well deserved death.

were basically minimum wage for a fairly popular station.
For the announcers the money comes from remotes. I made $25/hour normally and $50-75 if requested.
And that's pretty pathetic.
Unless you're Stern, Limbaugh, Rick Dees, Scott Shannon, etc. you don't make much. Syndication is absolutely essential to making anything.
