That decision was a hard nut to crack, but they’re in a nutty business, probably used to these things.

what are the names of the other three that died (without googling)?
One of them was John Altobelli, a California community college coach and former University of Houston baseball player.

Go ahead and explain how Kobe’s life had a greater impact or motr meaning than this random dead soldier.
Kobe took a leading part in a sports league that provides very destructive role models to inner city youth across the country. that’s possibly a greater impact.

And I’d counter that his talent is what allowed him to make money
Lots of people have just as much talent. There are great teachers, doctors, artists and parents that possess just as much talent. Kobe was fortunate enough to have talent that earned him millions.
There are teachers and coaches that have had a more positive effect on more people than Kobe. They did it for little money. Pay Kobe a teachers salary and how many lives would he have touched?
Again, not saying he would have been different but all that money sure can buy you fame.

Most NBA fans can name more than a few team rosters. Can you say the same for some random deployment of troops?
No one is saying the random soldier is unimportant or worthless. They're just saying no one really knows their direct impact outside of family and friends. Kobe was known worldwide so more people have been impacted by his life.
Now whether or not some people have gone overboard with it is another conversation altogether.

Not saying he was not a good man but there are millions of good men that would touch just as many lives if they had a 600 million dollar net worth.
Then maybe they should be really fricking elite at a job that pays you $600 million over your career so they can be in the spotlight and use it for good.
It's not like someone just handed him the money. He was by all accounts the hardest working guy in his field. He earned his money.

Different sorts of talents.
Man, lets deal in reality for a minute. Professional sports bring in hundreds of millions of dollars. Therefore the market dictates that these athletes get paid the big bucks. Is it “right”? Ain’t for me to say.

There are great teachers, doctors, artists and parents that possess just as much talent.

And if my aunt had balls she’d be my uncle. It’s just not the way the world works.

You have this all kinds of backwards

Pro sports, especially the NBA, is kinda a model of how the free market works.
Owners put up the most capital and therefore recoup the most profits.
Players provide a service essential to the success of the league and therefore are paid what the market dictates. Directly correlated to the value of the product produced.
Consumers pay for the product via ticket sales, cable/streaming packages, memorabilia/clothing, etc which again is directly correlated to the value of the product being put out.
All with limited government interference, although, this trend of tax payer funded stadiums is shady af.

Why does this not bother you guys as much? This is happening all the time. Why do people not tweet about these children as much? I imagine Gigi's short life was much better than these kids' short lives.
People put way too much emphasis on celebrity.

I might get their point if “we” didn’t mourn Chris Kyle and make a huge movie about him. People care about, and sometimes feel connected to exceptional high achievers. Not sure what’s so hard to understand.

You wouldn't be able to melt like this if it weren't for the troops, you ungrateful cuck.

These people think all Kobe did was play basketball.
I mean, most here are familiar with Joe Burrow and what he was able to accomplish with a minute of his Heisman speech. Kobe has juuuust a bit more influence than Burrow globally.
The responses in this thread are a notch below the "who?" posts made by people that think they are cool for not knowing very popular things.

This thread reads like some high schoolers who just smoked wee for the first time and are figuring out the world isn’t fair. A bunch of Anthony Soprano Jrs, if you will.

Did these same people weep when a soldier is killed? Not likely because the soldier cant hit a turn around jumper from 18 feet.
No disrespect to the soldier at all, but I have never heard of him a day in his life. Otoh, Kobe is someone whom the world has followed for 20+ years. He has impacted a lot of people's lives. Just as the soldier affected the lives of his close friends and family.
Do you honestly not see the difference?
