If You Struggle Or Have Struggled With Depression Would Reading A Poem Help?

Last night fr33 started a thread that had good intentions, it was a poem that was for those who struggle with depression.
Having struggled with depression at one point in my life I can only speak from my experience and I know my experience wasn't as bad as a lot of other people's experiences or what they are currently dealing with.
The thing I don't think people understand is that depression isn't about how you view life. Its a feeling. In general, the law of average is how I view life. Everyone has a different average, but I don't think we live in a dark world, nor do I think we live in a near perfect world. It's made up of both. You have to take the good with the bad and vice versa.
But when you are fighting depression it isn't about how you view life. It is a feeling. You can realize how you view life, but if you are fighting depression it doesn't matter because the feeling is holding you down.
There is nothing anyone can say or anything you can read or see that will suddenly make you feel better an if you assume that a poem will help someone, cheer them up then you don't really understand depression. There is a difference between feeling down on yourself and fighting depression.
I know everyone will downvote the piss out of this but I am actually being serious. Its like if someone breaks an arm an instead of them going get help, you give them a poem and say "hee.. read this. It will help you out".

Here I sit all broken hearted.
Tried to shite and only farted.
Then one day I took a chance,
I tried to fart and shite my pants.
I do feel better now.

Yep, physical ailment is exactly the same as a mental one. Great comparison.

I don't know about poems... I have been at some really low, dark, desolate places in my life.
Sex! Vagina! Always pulls me out!

so why did you start a thread for this? you could have just typed it as a response in his thread, where people who were interested could talk about it. but doing it this way just makes you look like you're taking a shot at him.
I try to not be a dick to you, but honestly, this makes you look petty.

Now you know what? I have always taken up for you when people were giving you a hard time and being hateful to you in the past. But with this one I want to slap you.
You never know what will get through to a person. Sometimes it IS words that gives someone that aha moment and turns things around. Sometimes it might be a punch in the mouth.

Dude...
I have consciously avoided replying to you, referring to you, literally anything to feed your warped little sense of validation.
You want to call me out by name? Then here you go.
This is the last post I will ever reply to you,
The last time I will speak your cursed name,
This is the last time I acknowledge your existence.
And I’m sure you are expecting some verbose, virulent, invective laced tirade about how you are a greasy, creepy, weepy, soul-sucking, smile-slaying, caustic, spastic fantastically awful piece of filth and literally the worst poster to ever log in to this awful place.
But I have none of that for you.
I only have a sick sense of pity that the utter spite others have for you is what keeps you going.
You can’t be killed, you can’t be ridiculed, shamed, browbeaten or harangued into being anything other than abjectly, absolutely, awful.
Like a Plague you feed off the invective spewed at you with every awful post. We feed your twisted lust for attention every time we acknowledge that you even exist.
And so, from now on. You don’t.
fie and damn ye!
I shun thee.

Mindful meditation could be helpful, when practiced regularly. There is a site/app called Headspace.com that can teach the whys and hows of mindful meditation. Aspects of the app are free, but you can opt to subscribe (no pressure). I use it daily (or try to). I did eventually subscribe. No regrets there. If someone has issues with stress, anxiety, depression, sleep problems, focus, and more, I can say this is a really great place to start getting things back into perspective.
