Is David Cutcliffe a good coach?

Obviously he’s not a great HC (Duke has posted records ranging from 4-8 to 9-4 since 2013, with a 5-7 2019 finish).
He also only makes $1.7 million/year.
From everything I read, though, he coached both the Manning brothers (at UT and OM), and Arch already has Duke listed as a school of interest. He’s the common link in the family. Is he just elite at developing QBs?

He's a good coach. I don't know if he's a great recruiter or head coach.

He’s a good coach who would have done well if he’d ever gone to a school with resources. Ole Miss should never have fired him and they paid for it.

I don't know much about him other than the Manning ties and that essentially Arch will go wherever he is coaching. I would have said him being at Duke should deter Arch but Daniel Jones says otherwise. Clearly a QB can go to Duke and develop into a 1st rounder under him. I sure wouldn't mind finding a way to get Arch to LSU.
Burrow to Brennan to CW (hopefully) to Arch....wouldn't be a bad succession plan. I believe in Brennan but am less sure about the other QBs behind him hence my goal of CW coming to LSU and sitting behind Myles for a year and then taking over.

Elite QB coach, very good offensive coach, bad recruiter, old.

He's a pretty damned good coach. Look at his record (116-108) then consider he's done that at Ole Miss and Duke.
He won as many games in his first year at Duke as Duke had won in the previous four seasons combined.

Best QB developer out there. I remember when his dink and dunk offense beat LSU and saban. If he had the athletes on o and d, his offenses would beat Clemson more than not.

Ever hear about Duke football in a positive light before he got there?

How about bringing Cutcliffe in as OC, pay him more than he’s making now, and ask E to stay in some capacity? Good, proven offensive mind, ties to the Manning kid, and your longer term is set...

Cutcliffe is 65. How long term do you think he goes?

5 years is considered long term for an OC, especially when you’re winning (see 2019 LSU). And yes, I know Brady wasn’t OC, but he had a pivotal role and the NFL took notice.

Cutcliffe's a good coach but he reminds me of guys like Glen Mason, Kyle Whittingham, Mike Leach, Mark Stoops, etc. These guys do well at places without high expectations but none of them ever attempt to coach at LSU, Alabama, Ohio St. etc. where competing for a national championship is expected.

the decline of Tennessee football occurred when he left as OC to be HC at Ole Miss. he was amazing running the old style power I offense. very, very impressive.
ole miss crapped the bed when they let him go.

I would bet a lot of money right now that Arch Manning goes wherever Cutcliffe is coaching at when he graduates high school. The Manning’s are loyal to Cutcliffe not certain schools.

This is the impression I get as well.

Arch isn't going to Duke. now, if cutcliffe is on staff at a big school, he might go there.

Look at it this way......Dukes record 10 years previous to Cutcliffe was 17-97.
After he took over their record has been 72-79. That should tell you all you need to know. He's obviously a good coach to take over Duke and win 72 games. Just look back at their history. He led them to their only 10 win season ever as well.

Arch would absolutely go to Duke to play for Cutcliffe. Cutcliffe and Duke just produced a first round QB last year with a lot of influence from the Manning family. They could easily do that again.
