That's a long fly ball, way back there, caught by the shortstop in shallow left field.

Does the same thing with first downs and yards gained. I mean, for any play you need to know either how many yards were gained and whether they got or how close they are to a 1st down. He'll make you wait until the start of the next fricking play to find out.

I have no issues with Blair
I enjoy his baseball call

Blair was hoarse on Monday.

Go back and listen to him call the Florida or Bama game. He gets plenty excited. Or even check out the video of him in the press box in the dome. Pumping his fists, raising his hands—the guy’s all in.

Sounds like Chris Blair is calling a peewee game.

Yep. Have to agree. Something is missing.

The common critique on Blair is that he is technically sound but lacks emotional resonance. The critique on Hawthorne was kind of the opposite. I enjoy them both.

Hawthorne messed up every big call of his career.
Hawthorne was absolutely miserable to listen to when the Tigers weren't playing well.
Hawthorne let Doug Moreau talk waaaaay too much.
I loved Hawthorne, because that's who I grew up with.

That said :

Blair gets his biggest calls right.
Blair keeps an even keel when things aren't going the Tigers' way.
Blair keeps Moreau's moronic droning to a minimum.

Totally agree about Blair. Very disappointed in his calls during this amazing run. The regular tv broadcast was always more exciting. When CBS would replay the play of the game first as broadcast and then as Blair called it, the tv broadcast was always way more exciting. I started out watching the ESPN Hometown broadcas during the National championship game and it nearly put me to sleep. Chris Fowler was WAY more exciting to listen to. I miss Hawthorne- he seemed to care. I know I’ve seen videos of Blair doing play by play and he looked excited but sure didn’t sound like it in his voice.

Peach Bowl was first time I heard Chris also. Like everyone said very professional but not “true” homer excitement. Makes you appreciate just how good Jim Henderson with the Saints on WWL truly was in pulling off this balancing act!!!

Sometimes you have to let these folks grow on you. They're an acquired taste if you wilk. I spent many nights by the radio listening to John Ferguson. When Walter Hill came alone I spent a couple of years comparing him to Ferguson. Eventually you accept that the predecessor is gone and not coming back. Time moves on. Same case with Blair.

Maybe not, but I don’t think Hanny was a good choice.

I'm pretty sure Wright was first runner up, but it didn't matter because Blair was their guy all along.

Me personally, I'd rather have had an LSU homer. Say what you want about Hanagriff and Wright but they are LSU guys and I think they would have brought a better enthusiasm to the calls

Yeah no shite this is wrong. I'll never hear another radio call in my lifetime better than the Morris homer.

I agree about Blair. He's gotten better but the search should start for a replacement ... p.s. I love Doug, he's great, miss the " Booth Cam" from Tigervision

I miss Hawthorne. To me he was synonymous with LSU. He knew how to call a game with the right emotion because he was a fan of the university. He made mistakes, but to me that was part of his charm.

Hawthorne sucked arse. You never knew what was happening

Hawthorne was bad at calling a game if LSU was not doing well. He is the patron saint of nega tigers. Coaches fired because of fan discontent should sue him. He was hard to hear when LSU was playing from behind.
