As the father of two school aged children I would be good with this. It's welfare. And most of the graduates are going elsewhere so why are Louisiana taxpayers still funding this welfare program?

I know plenty of families with kids who received TOPS money and they are very well off and will also bitch about food stamps and section 8 money.

The criteria to get TOPS needs to be raised, it's too easy.

TOPS is literally the best service the state has to offer

How is it welfare when it has a merit component to it?

Not saying whether TOPS should be kept or not, but this does not make sense to me.

Enrollment would drop in half and all those pretty new buildings would be wasted

Yes, in an education deficient state, let's remove all incentive for higher education.

Sounds like you need TOPS.

They should do TOPS for private school (K-12). That shite's getting out of hand.

You're gonna piss off all the faux conservatives here but I approve.

We are funding our own fricking brain drain and why people don't see this is proof that the education system here is fricked up.

Louisiana saw 80,000 residents leave the state in the last 3 years. Jobs for college educated individuals just are not here in this state.

I don't know about you all, but the last thing I want to do is pay for my neighbor's kids to go to college and leave the state after while at the same time trying to pay for my own shite.

Pay for your own shite, college students! I did!

We're giving college kids money. What percent of college kids will smoke weed and/or drink alcohol? Maybe 90%. So the state is subsidizing marijuana and alcohol. Time to end it. Let's spend that money subsidizing those of us who have to pay for private K-12.

I don't consider myself "very well off" but I'm very comfortable and very thankful for TOPS. If Louisiana wants college grads to stay home, maybe we should fix the problems causing them to leave.
