Who are you flying with and what kind of plane?

I'm not a 121 guy (airlines). Spent a lot of time in the 135 world (charter).

The current visibility, as reported in the METAR (1/16mile), is below minimums for charter and most airline operations. That's why I referenced the CAT III mins to Rwy 11. It has an ILS with mins below standard 200 and 1/2 required on most ILS approaches. Plane and pilots must be qualified for that type approach. Most are not.

The TAF is the forecast and it shows improvement in visibility, which is controlling, so the possibility of getting in to MSY improves this afternoon starting around 2pm.

MSY is a very efficient airport. I've never had substantial delays getting in or out of there.

There are plenty of scenarios in which you are perfectly legal to start the approach. Part 91, being one.

Be my guest. It’s just gas. I don’t know jack shite about part 91.

They are calling 1/4 mile on the surface vis. The metar is not giving the current rvr value. Fog always burns off once the temperature rises.

You can watch the flights incoming live here

Click on a plane and it will show you where the flight originated from.

Seems that way.

Plenty of professionals fly Part 91. Any owner operated aircraft falls under Part 91. Most corporate jets, for example.

Nat'l Weather Service just issued a Dense Fog Advisory until 3pm with another going into effect at 6pm until morning.

Wow, what timing! This is going to be a ClusterF

that makes no sense. You can clearly see traffic arriving and departing on Flightradar24

I don't know why but that approach landing from the west always makes me squirm.

I don't think lakefront can handle that size of plane.

I guess they could divert to the NAS but shutting down the CCC might be an ever bigger cluster

MSY airport is currently reporting 1/16 of a mile visibility and 200 ft. vertical visibility. Most airlines need at least 1/4 mile visibility for the ILS approach.

The forecast has the visibility increasing to 1/4 mile by noon, and then 3 miles from noon until 4 pm.

Good luck.
