Lupita Nyong’o got snubbed for her performance in “Us”. Bitch arse oscars scared to recognize horror movies.

I'm a huge horror fan, and I really didn't like Us. The movie's internal logic made no sense and its major twist was telegraphed from a mile away.I do love Lupita Nyong'o, and I think she did yeoman's work, but I'd prefer for her to be nominated for a better movie.

And in a year with Tigers are Not Afraid, Midsommar, The Lighthouse, and Parasite (not to mention the severely underrated Velvet Buzzsaw), there's no room for Us even if the Oscars appreciated horror films.

The acting categories are pretty much locked up at this point:

Actor-Phoenix
Actress-Zellweger
Supporting Actor-Pitt
Supporting Actress-Dern

Picture will be interesting, 1917 seems like the favorite, but Once Upon a Time in Hollywood or Parasite could win. Seems as tough Mendes is the clear front runner for director, but they could finally give one to Tarantino.

Midsommar

I'm choosing to think of Florence Pugh's Little Women nomination as some kind of back door recognition for her work in Midsommar.

I haven't seen Little Women yet. I'm sure she's good in it.

Parasite and Us attempted to deliver the same message. Parasite was by far the superior film.

Can’t believe The Farewell didn’t get more love.

Thought it was solid

Agreed. I think it should be Parasite or 1917. I liked Once Upon a Time a lot but I think Parasite and 1917 are a little better overall films

Best Actor: Joaquin
Best Supporting Actor: Pitt
Best Actress: Zellweger
Best Supporting Actress: Dern

I don't think Dern should win at all, but these are all locks. Best movie should easily either be 1917 or Parasite. Two best movies this year by far. Once Upon a Time in Hollywood has a slight chance.

Lighthouse and Uncut Gems are huge snubs.

The Lighthouse was the most “amazing” movie I saw this year. I can fully understand why someone may dislike it, but it was maybe the most expertly crafted movie I can remember

I agree with you on The Lighthouse. Excellent movie. Uncut Gems honestly was overrated as hell.

I agree, went over to the a24 subreddit and it is a shitshow , uncut gems is the biggest disappointment of the year, this film is the same as parasite people just circlejerking how good and fresh it is to show off their unique “taste” in movies

I don’t think so. I think Adam Sandler’s performance is overrated. He’s good but he’s not really doing anything different from what he’s done in the past.

I felt sick watching Uncut Gems. Hugely intense movie

Parasite has made more money in the US than any foreign language film in years. It's Korea's third highest grossing movie ever. It's easily the most acclaimed movie of the year. It just got 6 Oscar nominations, which is unprecedented for both its status as a Korean film and for how dark of a comedy it is.

The only thing weird or unique about the actual film is how well its popcorn movie premise is executed.

The best picture category is better than at first glance. Crowd-pleasers like Joker, Hollywood, and Ford v Ferrari mixed with some unique films like Parasite and Marriage Story. Only real Oscar bait is Irishman and 1917, with the latter actually being good.
