Who keeps perpetuating this lie? Has anyone ever met a single man that was legitimately AFRAID of a woman because she was "too smart" or made too much money?

It's not a total lie. There are some men that are bothered by women that make more than them.

It’s insecure men’s problem who completely tie their self worth to money. Those are the men afraid of smart/successful women.

It sounds like something a lot of career women tell themselves to explain why they cant attract some men and also gives them cover for pursuing a man who makes more than them because we know women even if they make a lot still require a man above their status.
"Men just cant take that I make a lot of money, which is why I need to date men who make more."

Yes.
They're weak men that haven't had the career success that they'd hoped for. Successful men don't care what their GF/wife makes.

Find a thread that clearly illustrates that its 100% about the money and intelligence and not about the personality or ego of the women who claim this or exist in the sphere of high earners.

In fairness, you're probably not going to find a thread where an OTer blames his relationship problems with a much higher earning woman on the fact that he's worthless and insecure.
