After watching his highlights, anyone not wanting him, with OUR talent around him, has an IQ < 70.

He can make all the throws and has running ability. The talent level he played against in those highlights were god-awful though.

Had all the time in the world to throw in a very clean pocket.

You can’t expect for him to have that same comfortability at LSU against SEC defenses. Might want to pump the brakes on the low IQ stuff.

ETA: and his completion percentage was 63.5% last year and 52% (the 4 games he played) this year

For some reason I am really not surprised at all. The geniuses will just keep coming.

I don't like it. I've got nothing against King himself or transfers in general, but I do think Myles has waited his turn ad unless he's unable to man the position, he should be the front runner fr he job. Nothing should be handed to a player, but at the same time, throwing in unnecessary obstacles doesn't seem like treating a player fairly, especially one who could have bolted last year. If one of the freshmen passes him, fine. But I think we owe it to Myles not to bring in a transfer.

If he is available and wants to come here, you bring him in and may the best man win.

This is reasonable. Our current situation forces us to wait until the summer before being able to take a grad transfer QB anyway, so Brennan will be able to get work with the 1s in spring that will give more indication as to what he can do next year than the PT he got with the backups this year.

That's not to say the PT he got wasn't valuable. It very much was. And in the past when we weren't blowing teams out or weren't putting games away well enough, it hampered QB development. It was more of a symptom of overall poor offensive philosophy/coaching leading to poor QB development though, not the sole factor.

Respectfully disagree here

Bringing in a transfer is not treating another guy unfairly.

The coaches owe it to themselves and the program to put the best team on the field. Now obviously you draw the line somewhere on what that entails, and that's where we disagree. I wouldn't draw the line and bringing in a transfer if I were fairly certain he would be better at the position than the guy currently there.

LSU doesn't owe Brennan anything at this point and this isn't an unnecessary obstacle. Would you rather a team like UGA pick him up instead of LSU? This is the norm in CFB and Brennan should know this by now.

Myles is the frontrunner for the job, particularly because King isn't even on the team yet.

Before I read through this entire thread, I was against the prospect of King coming here, particularly because if you bring him in, we almost certainly lose Brennan.

But someone else noted that King can only come on board after the spring game. If that is accurate, then we'll have a good idea of if Brennan has what it takes to give this team a chance to compete for the SEC title next season. If he's not cutting the mustard then bring the transfer in. Really no risk there.

I don't see a scenario where both are on this team though.

we definitely would need to make sure he has very good accuracy and can make good reads in our system.
From that video, he's slippery and fast, but he is nowhere near as good a passer as Burrow is. His form is not classic pretty and his ball flight is erratic looking.

King is NOT Drew Brees.

You can’t compare many players to Brees, and King will never be one of the few that can.

Yep, just like Brandon Harris. If a QB is on the team and doesn't transfer out he should definitely start. No need to compete. He is loyal and deserves the job, no questions asked.

Fun Fact: Kyle Trask was King’s backup at Manvel High School in Texas.

I think the obvious difference between King and Brennan when it comes to their small statures is that one is an elusive dual-threat while the other is a pocket-passer who may not be able to handle the hard shots in the pocket that he's sure to take.

Fair. and I don't draw the line at transfers. Obviously, Burrow is a transfer as was Tracy, who was a huge boon to the team last year, and Damien Lewis, who as been terrific. But we brought in transfers at obvious positions of need where no player had stepped up.

If you're going to sell Family, you have to show some degree of loyalty to the guys in your program. They showed loyalty when they could have bolted, and you should show it back (again, the exception is if the staff truly think Brennan can't start in the SEC). I just don't think winning at all costs is worth it. There is an element of how you run your program that I care about, and I don't like treating guys in the program as jut pieces of meat (not saying you are, just explaining where I come from).

I have faith in the staff's recruiting and development, and I always default to the guy in the program. This isn't the pro game where I think you can justify being more ruthless towards talent acquisition. I don' want to default to all transfers are bad, because that isn't true, but in this case, I think Brennan has, to use an old phrase, shown chest and we should try to reward that if we can.

Now, if the coaches who are in practice see he can't cut it, that's a different story. There's loyalty and then there's cutting off your nose to spite your face.
