Which Vanguard did you go with?
Regular. Blued with the griptonite plastic stock.

grouping good? Is it real picky on ammo?
Seems like it, but I've only shot it with the iron sights so far. Consensus on the internets is that they are good shooters. The trigger is fantastic.

just get a Vanguard and get the AI-06 built instead.
Since they are selling them out of the custom shop now, I'd give them a call. They may let you order whatever caliber you want.

I have a Vanguard. One of the 1st ones. It is very accurate with Weatherby ammo. 4" at 300yds without really trying too hard.
When you say reloaders are having a hard time getting accuracy in Vanguards, is that with WBY cartridges?
I've never tried to reload mine but have heard that it's pretty hard to get the speeds out of reloads that you get with factory ammo.
I don't know if that is true though.

Yea I am going to give them a call. Seeing how I am still a OB poor dropping 5k on two rifles still hurts.
BBVDD
The two fellas who load, one of which I got my MarkV from both have said Weatherbys are just very picky. The only factory ammo they shoot well are weatherby and they are just tough to load for because little changes have drastic effects.

They run their ammo really hot and the rifles shoot them very well.
I guess that's why they charge $100 for a box of it.

300 WBY is an outstanding elk caliber. Near about perfect.
Look at the 28 Nosler and the 6.5x300 WBY, as well.

Generally true about mark 5's. They have tons of freebore to help with pressure spikes IIRC. Vanguard is a rebranded howa 1500 and shouldnt have the picky problem.
I will own a mark V one day. Damn fine rifles.

Yea the 28 Nosler was my original first choice but like I said in the OP some guys seem to shy away from 7mm/28s for elk because of less than ideal bullet performance.
I dont want to use a brake so was looking at 28s instead of 30s.
In the 30s I guess a 30Nosler,300STW and 300Weatherby

More horsepower is the answer! Roy Weatherby and Elmer Keith are disappointed in you.
You're welcome to shoot this 375 if you dont believe me. First time out I shot a whole box of bullets because it was so damn fun. It's nowhere near as horrible as people make it out to be.
I would be nervous about the .33 barn burners like 340wby and 33 nosler, but none of those 30's or even the .338 win mag is going to rough you up unless the rifle is an air weight

I have shot 300wins with no problem. In fact the hardest kicking gun I have is the 35Whelen which isnt too bad.
Ill have to get you a beer one day. You have probably talked me into saving $1500 and getting a Vanguard in 300 Weatherby.

I'm serious, you're welcomed to shoot mine if you think it might be a problem.
Handle one and make sure you like it. It has a two stage trigger and 3 position safety, both tend to be a love it hate it kinda thing.
Buy one with a decent stock. The lower grade ones have a Tupperware stock that sucks arse, The green one with the black inserts. Buy one that has a fiberglass stock.
You'll like it. Itll shoot good and you wont feel bad when you bang it up on the trail. Itll make a might fine elk blaster

I am currently looking really hard at the Mark V Wewthermark LT but can’t decide on what caliber to get. Anyone have any thoughts on 6.5 Wby RPM or 6.5-300?
Posted on 7/27/20 at 3:26 pm to Ol Gregg
Get the RPM and be put Guinea pig

What are you planning on using it for? Those are some barrel burners

Get the 6.5 x 300. You can sit on the porch of your deer camp and shoot a Muley all the way in a Wyoming.

I want to get a lighter weight back country type gun and want caliber that is good all around. This gun weighs less than 6lbs and doesn’t have the backcountry price tag.
I honestly haven’t decided what caliber I want and just trying to figure out. My current calibers are .243, 7mm-08, 30-06, 300WSM.
Was curious if anyone had any experience with those calibers or suggestions for what would be ideal in a gun mainly used for whitetail but has the power for elk since would be a good gun to hike with.

I just realized the 6.5 wby rpm is a new cartridge. I guess I didn't notice it until reading another post.
Looked it up on their website. It's interesting but it looks to be pretty much equal to the 6.5 prc which is an awesome round.
the PRC can also be found in a short action. Ammo won't be as hard to find nor anywhere near as expensive.
ETA: The 6.5 PRC is a direct copy of the 6.5-284. The reason behind the PRC is that there are 3 or 4 different 6.5-284 cartridges.
The 6.5 PRC is the attempt to make one universal.

So, I just built one.
Blueprinted 700 SS action, 308
Triggertech trigger
20 inch threaded remage SS barrel from Crown Ridge
MPA muzzle break
HS Precision Al Bedded stock.
Shoots less than 1 inch groups at two hundred yards. Went with 308 because I already reload it, if get stuck somewhere it is a common caliber, can always find rounds, great for deer, super accurate.
I am not against the newer fad calibers, I have a few. Just for a hunting gun I prefer to stick w traditional, easy to find ammo.
Gun is intended to be for white tails and similar out to 600 or so.
Matching it up with Vortex Razor HD II 3-18x50 on a NightForce mount and seeking rings.
Built it up and tested it. Took the barreled action to be coated last week. Should have it back in a week or two.

Sounds great. I have a triggertech in my build and I love it.
Best break I’ve ever felt on a trigger.
