Disney tried to put too many Marvel jokes in it

The problem isn’t necessarily the jokes, but that they weren’t good jokes. However, Star Wars usually took itself seriously with just a little humor and wit here and there, typically from the droids. TLJ was like a bad Chuck Lorrie sitcom with the laugh track removed. The humor seemed to be low hanging and stem from both heroes and villains acting like morons.

As insulting as the saber flip was, his speech had a point and could have made sense in the story with more development that we didn’t get. Instead, it felt like a cheap gag used for shock value and a f$&k you to the audience.

The other issue is that Luke Clearly wanted to be found because he left a map in the previous movie. It represents yet another instance where foreshadowing set up by JJ in TFA was ignored by RJ in TLJ

The way the critics who loved TLJ are responding, there is already a massive crop of melts.

Maybe no one will like this movie.

Like I said in the other thread, I think JJ has managed the impossible:

He's pissed off the star wars nerds and SJW crybabies at the same time.

It’s a disaster in terms of writing.

I rewatch it from time to time and discover new things that are funny/bad about the film.

The whole Poe plot line of the movie is pretty bad. They browbeat him for most of the movie like a bad boyfriend for doing overly risky cliche manly stuff. Only to get to end where purple haired lady pulls a giant courageous manish stunt of kamikazing the ship, which doesnt really keep the first order from attacking on the salt planet.

Another thing that is very funny is that terrible jackass character with the rose on his jacket in the casino. The guy looked like a bicurious mix of Borat and 007. I really hope they make the some terrible heist movies with that chatacter just to see if there is an audience for that like they think.

TLJ deserved every bit of backlash it has received.

It's a horrid movie at all levels, and that's before the blatant SJW crap.

I am no HUGE Star wars fan. I grew up in the 70s and 80s so I was around when it came out. I enjoyed it then but lost some interest as I got older. I have never seen the Rouge 1s or even Solo at this point but I intend on watching Solo.

I watched TLJ this week on Netflix and it was OK. I wasn't crazy about all the SJW bullshite but I did see on this board where that happened. That was a bad move on the part of the writers

The basic story line was pretty predictable as were some of the major scenes based on Star Wars history. If you think about the movie from start to finish, nothing really happened. Nothing was accomplished and the next movie basically is starting in the same place. The Dark ruler is different but for the masses, its the same place

Luke Skywalker was Star Wars in the old days. Now his small part, and even smaller meaning, really was a disappointment.

But if they would not have trashed Luke the way they did IMO it would have been an ok movie.

no

ignoring the Luke bullshite and the SJW bullshite

they created a literal dead end to the story and completely ruined any chance of Rey having a legitimate character arc or any development at all. she is the centerpiece of the new trilogy and became a terrible character with nothing rational to do after TLJ. that's inexcusable for the middle chapter of a trilogy

4 things that I disliked about TLJ:

1. Yoda manipulating the world as a ghost
2. Rey again has no struggle to overcome
3. All the men are incompetent compared to all the women
4. Luke was ruined in every way

Right

Like I hated so many things they did in the movie, but even just viewing the movie as part two of a trilogy, it’s a complete failure

I’ll never understand how so many experienced people decided that a trilogy should be comprised of three movies that basically stand alone with no arc or communication or consistency among those making the fricking movies.

It proves to me that they were aware it would make money regardless and didn’t seem to give a shite.

So now I don’t either.

Well, I've been a pretty hardcore SW fan my whole life. Read like 40+ SW novels. I've watched all the movies many times over. Including the Prequels and Solo. I've played through SW:KOTOR 1 and 2 at least 5 times each.
I really thought SW could do no wrong. I was wrong. TLJ is the only SW film I dont own a copy of and I have not been able to even sit and watch it a 2nd time. I've tried.
It's bad. Really really really bad.
