Which services should be monopolized and socialized?

Which of these services do you believe are so important in human life that only the government should handle them as a socialized monopoly service (funded via theft) as opposed to them being handled by multiple competing businesses and charities in the Free Market (funded voluntarily)?
If you think some services should be in a mix of private market and government provided, why would you trust the free market to provide a portion but not all of that particular service?
1. National Defense
2. Police
3. Courts/Arbitration
4. Roads
5. Fire Protection
6. Healthcare
7. Food
8. Housing
9. Education
10. Electricity
11. Internet
12. Telecommunications
13. Retirement Funding
14. Unemployment Insurance
15. NONE OF THE ABOVE

Military and Law Enforcement. That is all.

Agreed. There are those who will say to privatize this but you can't have police protection and enforcement based on who can or is willing to pay for it. Our justice system, albeit the finest one in the history of man, still is based way too much on one's ability to pay. The people who say it is racist are idiots. It is monetary based. Just ask the rich people of all colors who have hired defense teams, experts, private investigators, etc to get out from under criminal charges.

The problem with your line of thinking is that you think that the market is always better
The market has done an absolute fricking shite job at providing internet in this country.

Definitely 1-5 with control over those services being as localized as possible, giving people the ability to vote with their feet, choosing where they want to live based on the quality of service provided.

Feds should handle foreign policy, national defense, and ensuring that the constitution is upheld.
For everything else, there is the far more efficient private sector/states.

Is that the market or is that providers receiving protection by paying off politicians?

The government's job is to enforce contracts and provide for the common defense.

1-5. Government
6-8. A mixture of private/government. Where private is primary. Government is emergency.
9. Government (mainly because private would effectively create a caste system).
10-12.Private
13-14. Preferred Private. However, this is based on how much you trust the banking/financial system. Many people lost their investments in 2008 crash.

Well, there are some places it is cost prohibitive to have high speed internet...
Isn't this always one of the excuses for keeping public libraries open? Why are you so anti public library?

I really wonder how much of this is due to actual market inefficiencies vs obstacles like licensing and bureaucracy.
I have my suspicions, but nothing concrete on which to levy an accusation.

Me too. I just looked this term up. Based AF. This is what government should be 100%.

I believe your second guess is the best.
All markets want to make money. The issue is that many rural areas are deemed "not populated enough" to build new 4G capable towers for.

Ok, but someone more than likely made the choice to live in a sparsely populated area...
It is kind of like someone buying property on an unpaved road, building a house and then bitching because the road isn't paved...

I'm going with 'none of the above' for $500, Alex.

If you really want minarchism, you’d need to be ready to pay a lot more for law enforcement. It’s a completely unworkable suggestion in the modern era.
If course, this assumes you could actually find people that could attain elected office on the platform of cutting free education, which is beyond comprehension.
