Some are going to hate the jar part, but I am a single dad, and I often have little time to cook after work. So, I always look for short cuts. This jar from Cajun Power is amazing. I followed the instructionss by browning a load of thighs then let them simmer all afternoon yesterday while I was gone. This was the best thing I have cooked all year.

Oh well if the chicken isn’t in the jar this is much more agreeable

No, used about 4 lbs of thighs.

I just bought a jar of this a week ago to try. I swear by the garlic sauce. Did you have to add anything or simply followed the directions on the jar?

I can drink that stuff. I've never used a gumbo base from a jar, but I've got a jar of Cajun Power gumbo base my mom gave me

Also, FYI, There are a lot of other products like this out there labeled as “simmer sauces” and what not.

Most are pretty good.

I have no problem with simmer sauces. I like using Thai and Indian ones for shortcuts. Often, those require some ingredients that I don't readily have on hand or are one time purchases. The only issue with them is that they typically have a ton of salt in them.

Only thing I did different from instructions was I seasoned the chicken skin with Tony's before browning and I added about 2 tablespoons of the garlic sauce, because I swear by it.

I cooked it way longer than suggested because I had no choice. Some people might have thought this was a bit too hot. Probably doesn't need the Tony's.

I've seen it and often wondered about it. I almost bought a jar just to taste the sauce. Would that sauce work on pork chops?

I think it would work on any meat really.

I tried Tikka Masala last week. It was ok. Karma is next. Any favorites you can recommend?

I’ll buy their shrimp stew mix and the fresh peeled, deveined shrimp from Rouses. Makes for a tasty, easy dinner.

The Thai green curry simmer sauce from Trader Joe’s is very good. I like it with vegetables and shrimp.

Saffron Road

We've been very happy with these. The pad Thai was particularly good.

Browning the chicken is like 90% of the active cooking time for the dish so you really didn't save any time.

Sir, you need an Instant Pot or other electric pressure cooker. I'm not a gadget cook, I like doing most things from scratch. But the IP is a necessary tool in your kitchen arsenal if you're strapped for time.

You can stick rock hard frozen boneless skinless chicken breasts in the IP....season 'em a little, add 1/2 cup water in the bottom, and cook at high pressure for 12 mins. You'll have a bunch of chicken ready to shred for chicken salad, sandwiches, taco filling (toss w/some salsa), etc.

Cook red beans in 45 mins, no soaking....lentils in 10, etc.

They used to have a chili in that same jar and I was looking at it and it has a chili dog recipe on the back. Like I needed a recipe but I bought it anyway because reading it made me want a chili dog. Got to the register and the lady told me they were two for one so I ended up with two jars.

We had a chili dog party that weekend. It was perfect for that use.
