Well since you have all the answers, General, would this policy allow academy athletes the latitude to go to training camp and try to get a roster spot as a free agent, and does it apply to the other professional leagues?
Excuse me, “bird” would imply that you never progressed beyond colonel.

Well, it was informative asking questions and being told to shove your concerns in a thread full of military and athlete worshippers. Thanks.

You’ve given away quite a bit about yourself in this thread as well.

It’s always easy to spot the guys who never had what it took. The barely-concealed resentment invariably reveals everything you need to know.

Who the hell goes to a service academy as an avenue to pro ball considering that they know the rules?
I dunno - maybe Napolean Mccallum or David Robinson

They knew the rules and Robinson did not envision an nba future when he went to the academy. Again, the rules are clear, if you want to play pro ball, go to any other school that doesn’t require military service after graduation. This seems very simple. I would think you only go to one of the academies if you want to be in the military.

It will be 3 to 7 players per decade most likely.
Yes, and it seems to be handled case by case making an exec order unnecessary and clearly pandering. But “trump” so it’s the most fricking awesome thing ever!!!

may now be able to get some better athletes. Not that that is the point of the service academies
Exactly.

Well watch the service teams improve in all sports as long as Trump is king(oops I mean president!)

Not many but occasionally the opportunity sneaks up on you.
Shame to tell a guy he can’t pursue playing a sport he loves for a half mil plus a year because he HAS to serve.
Might even see more guys that have an outside shot go to the academy and end up being great in their service when the odds catch up and they aren’t in the league after their 4 years

We tell all these thousands of athletes to pursue degrees in a career they’d love. Having more elite physical specimens that can’t make it to the league in our service is probably a net positive for the academy, gives guys a chance to have a dual path that makes sense for their aspirations and ultimately no real downside

I don’t know why people are mad about this. There may be one or two players from the service academies who would get drafted each year.
Exactly
