a go to for me plus i remember my momma and mawmaw cutting the recipes out the times picayune when i was a kid. so has sentimental meaning for me.

I have that book too..It's pretty good.. My mother did the same with cutting out recipes from the paper. She had a big photo album with all the recipe cutouts pasted in there. A dog one of the kids brought home chewed the whole thing up plus took a dump on the book. That dog went to the pound that afternoon..

La Bouche Creole, and its sequels, by Leon Soniat. Old fashioned but wonderful creole home cooking....not cheffy, restaurant style stuff. His grillades recipe is the foundation for mine, and he’s got some charming anecdotes about early/mid 20th century life in NOLA.

I know you wanted the best, but this bibliography from a few years ago may give you some ideas. Personally I like the New Orleans Cookbook.
For homestyle recipes, I like Cooking Up a Storm and From Wood Stoves to Microwaves: Cooking with Entergy although that last one is out of print. I could give you a PDF of it if you're interested to see it.
For restaurant style recipes, try The New Orleans Chefs' Cookbook. It's a selection of the best recipes from the Chef's Charity for Children edited by Phil Johnson of WWL TV.

This is my favorite as well. I will occasionally run across a good copy and buy them as gifts for friends and family.

Very good book. Way more in line with an older style cookbook that teaches techniques and the whys and less a chef cookbook that uses recipes to tell a story about some life moment. Reminds me of a Jacques Pepin style book.

Not necessarily Nola, but both of Donald Links cookbooks are fantastic. Fairly simple recipes and the books open nicely while reading and cooking. Others I own are bound like novels which is pointless.
